Adrianus Pramudya Hatibie (Geography 2019), Cita Meyliana (Geography 2019), and Tristan Dimastyo Ramadhan (Geography 2019) won first place in the National Scientific Writing Competition (LKTIN) organized by the Agricultural Engineering Student Association of the University of Lampung. This activity is one of the series of PERMATEP In Action Season XII with the competition themed “Student Innovation and Creativity in the Implementation of Science and Technology in the Agricultural Sector to Realize the 2030 SDGs”.
Through a paper entitled “Utilization of Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing in Knowing the Potential of Spring Onion Plants in Cipanas District, Cianjur Regency, West Java Province”, the FMIPA UI contingent presented an innovation in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (PJ) to determine the spatial pattern of spring onion plants and analyze the influence of production factors on spring onion plants.
The team received direct guidance from Adi Wibowo, PhD, a Geography lecturer at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia. Their research focused on describing production factors and analyzing the potential of spring onions in Cipanas District to support regional economic growth.
“This is because Cipanas District is known as one of the largest producers of spring onions in West Java and has significant potential for development. However, unfortunately, there is no spatial distribution of this potential. Therefore, my team and I are interested in initiating this research,” said Adrianus, team leader.
He further explained that this study used slope, rainfall, and temperature as variables to analyze the suitability of the area for spring onions. The methods employed were descriptive spatial and qualitative analysis. Primary data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with informants through field surveys. Secondary data was obtained through the Geospatial Information Agency.
“After processing, the data was visualized in the form of a map, where the results of the study showed that most areas in Cipanas District are suitable for growing spring onions,” he said.
According to the man who is familiarly called Pram, the uniqueness of his team compared to other participants or teams lies in the use of software (software) used. In this competition, he and his team utilized Google Earth Engine, a cloud-based platform that offers global-scale environmental data analysis, and ArcGIS Pro software for data processing and visualization.
Previously, the teams had gone through a series of selection processes, including full paper submissions, announcements of successful full paper selection, and finalist presentations. The winners were announced online via Zoom Meeting and social media.
The National Scientific Writing Competition (LKTIN) is a national-level competition organized by the Agricultural Engineering Student Association of the University of Lampung. This activity is part of the PERMATEP In Action Season XII series, with the theme “Student Innovation and Creativity in the Implementation of Science and Technology in Agriculture to Achieve the 2030 SDGs.”
The target participants of this LKTI are all active students of higher education institutions at undergraduate (S1) and diploma (D1, DII, DIII) levels throughout Indonesia with the aim of growing and awakening a culture of writing among students and building students’ abilities in expressing ideas, concepts and strategies that provide solutions.
The timeline for the LKTIN is May 26 – June 25, 2022 (Registration & Complete Manuscript Submission), June 26 – July 4 (Manuscript Proofreading), July 5 (Announcement of Successful Manuscript Selection), July 6 (Technical Meeting), July 7 – July 8 (Presentation), and July 10 (Announcement of Winners).
