Arrizqy Nadya, a 2019 undergraduate student in Geography from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), was one of two University of Indonesia delegates selected to receive the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) Visiting Student Program at Ajou University, South Korea. This program is a collaboration between the University of Indonesia and Ajou University.
Nadya plans to fly to South Korea on August 26, 2022. At Ajou University, Nadya will attend lectures for one semester with a focus onBusiness Administrationstudies .
Since being announced as having passed the selection process on July 5, 2022, Arrizqy Nadya Khairunissa Yulianto has been preparing various travel documents and administrative matters required by Ajou University.
Nadya had previously gone through a highly competitive selection process. A total of 240 students from around the world applied for the program, hoping to gain experience studying in the Land of Ginseng.
Moreover, in addition to being a popular student exchange destination, South Korea has also become a highly sought-after tourist destination, especially among K-Pop fans. This is due to the growing appeal of South Korea in the eyes of the global community. In fact, student exchange programs often serve as a way for students to simultaneously travel to this developed country.
However, Arrizqy’s full name, Nadya Khairunissa Yulianto, revealed that based on her experience, the selection process for this type of scholarship is not easy. In addition to academic grades, academic and non-academic achievements, the ability to writea personal statementandstudy planalso play a significant role in the assessment.
“I think the key assessment points are when creatinga personal statementandstudy plan. So, we have to list our accomplishments,skills, experience in organizations, communities, or committees, andfuturegoals ,” Nadya told the UI Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Public Relations team.
The various financial benefits received by students participating in the Global Korea Scholarship student exchange program include monthly pocket money, moving allowance, round-trip airfare, and health insurance.
“In addition to tuition fees for one semester, selected students will receive scholarship coverage such as a monthly allowance, a moving allowance, round-trip airfare, and health insurance,” he said.
Besides attending lectures, Nadya and other student exchange program participants also have the opportunity to perform atthe International Festival Daywhich is scheduled everyfallsemester to promote the arts and culture of their home countries.
This moment will certainly be very interesting, because they will present a variety of arts and cultures from their respective countries through traditional foods, traditional musical instruments, and regional traditional clothing.
Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, expressed his appreciation for Nadya. He emphasized the importance of students participating in student exchange programs to increase theirinternational exposure .
The Dean assessed that this international exposure could encourage the development of students’ knowledge not only in the academic field, but also in exploring affective and psychomotor skills such as critical thinking, intellectual problem-solving, communication skills, collaboration, and creativity.
“In addition to developing their potential in the international arena and learning from other foreign students, in this program students can also become ambassadors for the University of Indonesia, especially FMIPA UI,” said the Dean.
For your information, the Global Korea Scholarship is a scholarship program for international students initiated by the South Korean government. Previously known as the KGSP (Korean Government Scholarship Program).
Through this GKS program, the South Korean Government hopes to provide valuable experiences for foreign students through culture and education, as well as strengthen global competency for universities in South Korea.
