Another proud achievement was achieved by the UI FMIPA student team consisting of Dylan Arlen Tunggatama (Actuarial 2020), Arundhati Naysa Ekhaputri (Mathematics 2020), and Deva Fitrianti Rahayu (Geophysics 2020) as the First Place Winner. National Business Case Competition Management Expo Airlangga University Management Student Association 2021.
This exciting news isn’t the first for the Persistent, United, Keen (PUK) team from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia. Dylan and his two teammates have also won similar competitions several times. However, this year’s competition was quite different and more challenging, as they had to solve three different business cases.
“In general, the scheme we’re going through consists of three phases. First, registration and the preliminary round, where teams are asked to collect paper dari case given. If we qualify for the semifinals, we will make a video of the solution to the problem. case which is different again. Finally, the 6 best teams will advance to the final round. In the final round, we work on case “The third round will be held in eight hours. The next day, the six teams will present their solutions to the judges,” Dylan explained, explaining the scheme he followed.
Despite the highly competitive competition, with more than 200 teams from universities across Indonesia competing, the PUK Team proved their worth as the top team and successfully captured the judges’ attention with their innovative solutions.
As team leader, Dylan explained that this success was due to the strong collaboration with his team members. Furthermore, his team’s key strength lies in the uniqueness and originality of the solutions they offer.
Dylan explained that the strategy he and his team employed was to thoroughly analyze the case and integrate existing innovations. Furthermore, Dylan emphasized the importance of leveraging the company’s vision and mission to ensure the ideas remain relevant.
The first business case given comes from beauty industry, The focus of the case was on how participants could contribute ideas to ensure L’Oreal’s continued popularity in the future.
Meanwhile, the second case came from F&B industry, Taco Bell. The semifinalists were challenged to solve problems so that in the post-pandemic era, Taco Bell could survive and grow. sales-although previously due to the pandemic they had changed the system and reduced their physical restaurants.
The last business case still comes from F&B industry, namely Lokalate. In his case, brand The company plans to expand its market share in Surabaya. In this case, the PUK Team focused on product development innovation. This was driven by Lokalate’s numerous flavor variants. Dylan and his team proposed the idea of creating a new variant that truly reflects Surabaya. Their marketing strategy was also heavily based on behaviour dari customer-nya, such as matching it with research journals which show that Surabaya children tend to choose to buy products and hang out rather than takeaway.
One of the team members, Naysa, acknowledged that the process of solving the business case was not without various challenges. One of these was the need for research This is because the competition they are participating in is beyond their existing knowledge as FMIPA students.
Even so, the PUK Team continues to maintain a burning passion to continue competing because they believe that there are many benefits and skill which is obtained from competitive experience, especially national scale competitions involving many other superior students from all over Indonesia.
The National Business Case Competition (NBCC) is a business case-solving competition for students from across Indonesia. The competition aims to provide a platform for students to share new ideas and concepts for solving business cases from a student perspective. NBCC is also part of four sub-events at the 2021 Management Expo.
In 2021, NBCC Management Expo carries the theme “Optimizing The Role of Digital Transformation for Businesses in Disruptive Era“. The theme is motivated by the widespread use of digital platforms, which has become a momentum to accelerate digital transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic. This encourages business actors to optimize the role of digital transformation in their business operations. To achieve this, business actors are required to utilize the technology that best suits their needs so that every series of business processes can run according to predetermined goals. By carrying this theme, the NBCC Management Expo hopes to foster student innovation and creativity in solving business problems in the era of digital transformation.
Registration for NBCC 2021 is open from July 18 to September 16, 2021. Then, the preliminary round will be held from September 26 to October 2, 2021. The semifinal round will be from October 10 to 22, 2021. The final round will be from November 19 to 21, 2021. After that, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1st Runner-up, 2nd Runner-up, and 3rd Runner-up winners will be announced on November 21, 2021, via Instagram @mexpo.nbcc2021.
