The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) are strengthening cooperation in improving human resource capacity through the use of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics observation equipment, as well as the use of data in joint research activities.
The signing of the Cooperation Agreement was carried out directly by the Acting Dean of FMIPA UI Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng., and Ir. Dwi Budi Sutrisno, M. Sc. Main Secretary of BMKG who in this case was represented by the Head of the Legal and Organizational Bureau of BMKG Mohamad Muslihhuddin, S.H, M.H. and witnessed by the Deputy for Meteorology of BMKG Guswanto, M. Si., on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building of FMIPA UI – PT Pertamina (Persero).
The collaboration is an implementation of the parent collaboration between the University of Indonesia and BMKG, regarding the Utilization of Facilities and Infrastructure, Education, Research and Community Service, which was implemented on July 4, 2017 through the signing of a Joint Memorandum of Understanding between the Chancellor of UI and the Head of BMKG at that time.
The Acting Dean of FMIPA UI appreciated this collaboration. In his speech, he said, “This collaboration with BMKG is an effort to increase synergy between FMIPA UI and BMKG in realizing increased human resource capacity, as well as the development of science and technology related to Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (MKG) information, so that this collaboration is expected to be able to produce significant breakthroughs in the development of science and technology to support national development.”
On the same occasion, the Deputy for Meteorology of BMKG Guswanto, M. Si. said, “In facing the natural challenges in Indonesia, BMKG as a non-ministerial government institution is given a mandate based on Law Number 31 of 2009 concerning academics at the University of Indonesia, especially FMIPA UI to jointly develop and improve MKG information services. The signing of this cooperation is an effort to encourage independence in the development of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics observation equipment. That way, in the future BMKG can reduce Indonesia’s dependence on foreign parties in providing meteorological, climatology, and geophysical observation equipment, so that the cost of procuring meteorological and climatology observation equipment will be more affordable.”
The scope of the FMIPA UI – BMKG collaboration includes the placement of MKG observation equipment at the Parangtopo Laboratory of FMIPA UI, Depok. The equipment consists of 1 (one) set of Automatic Weather Station (AWS) and 1 (one) unit of Non-Colocated Accelerograph; 1 (one) unit of Seismic Borehole and 1 (one) unit of Weather Display. Other scopes include joint research for the utilization of data from the equipment measurements, human resource development, and joint seminars in the field of MKG.
Also present from the University of Indonesia were the Head of the Sub-Directorate of Academic and Government Cooperation Eko Sakapurnama S.Psi., MBA., Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration of FMIPA Prof. Dr. Yoki Yulizar, M.Sc., Manager of Cooperation, Ventures, and Alumni Relations of FMIPA Selo Sukardi, S. Si.,
Meanwhile, from BMKG, Anni Arumsari Fitriany, S.Si. Coordinator of Cooperation, and Mega Widia Astuti, S.H. Sub Coordinator of Cooperation. Both parties hope that this cooperation will bring mutual benefits as in the cooperation that has been established previously.
