Today, Tuesday (26/2), the series of activities for the 2019 FMIPA UI Outstanding Student Selection event began. Dr. Ratna Yuniati, FMIPA UI Education Manager, officially opened the event.
The event, which will be held for the next three days, will be held at the Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building, FMIPA UI – PT. Pertamina, UI Campus, Depok. Attended by the Dean, Vice Dean I, education manager, cooperation manager, head of UPMA, head of the Office of International Affairs and Public Relations, heads of departments, heads of undergraduate study programs, and students from various student organizations (BEM, BPM, HMD, BSO) within the FMIPA UI environment.
The agenda for the Pilmapres activity at the beginning of this series of events is the presentation of papers by participants who are representatives from each department in front of the judges and students who are… supporter participants
Dr. Retno Lestari, M.Si. as the chair, in her remarks said that the theme raised this year is still the same as in previous years, namely Sustainable Development Goals.
Based on this theme, Retno continued, students are expected to be sensitive and able to play an active role in addressing the problems facing their environment by providing alternative solutions based on their academic backgrounds.
Regarding this year’s FMIPA UI Pilpmapres (Pilmapres), she explained that there are two Pilpmapres groups: Main Mapres and Category Mapres, which cover four achievement categories: socio-environmental, arts and culture, entrepreneurship, and sports.
Main Mapres participants come from all departments: two students each from the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Geography departments, and one student from the Geosciences study program, for a total of 11 Main Mapres candidates.
Meanwhile, the Category Mapres field is contested by 23 students from each department. Each department sends four candidates for each category, with only the Geosciences study program sending three candidates.
“This year, the Geosciences Study Program has not yet sent any candidates for Arts and Culture students. The Geosciences Study Program is one of the younger study programs at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia. Hopefully, in the coming years, we can send a full representative pool,” Retno concluded.
The candidates, Retno said, had previously gone through a departmental selection process. During the selection process, the FMIPA UI student affairs unit collaborated with the FMIPA UI Student Executive Board (BEM) and relevant departments to determine candidates from each department who met the criteria.
The judging process will last several days, with the final announcement scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2019.
