An actuary is an expert whose job is to solve actual problems in a business, especially those related to risk.
Actuaries generally work in the insurance, pension fund and actuarial consulting sectors.
The actuarial profession in Indonesia is not as popular as it is abroad, even though the need for actuarial staff is very high because there is not enough professional actuarial staff needed by the financial industry in Indonesia.
As of 2019, the number of actuaries was still around 652 people out of a total Indonesian population of 250 million.
Of this number, the majority of actuaries work in the life insurance and actuarial consulting industries, while the number of actuaries working in the general insurance industry is still relatively minimal.
With all of this as a background, the Indonesian General Insurance Association (AAUI) together with Project READI (Risk Management, Economic Sustainability and Actuarial Science Development in Indonesia) and the Mathematics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia held AAUI Goes to Campus with the theme “Opportunities and the Active Role of Actuaries in General Insurance”
The activity, which was held on Wednesday (02/05/2020) at FMIPA, UI Depok Campus, was a talk show that provided an understanding of the actuarial profession and the opportunities to work as an actuary in the general insurance industry which are still widely open.
