FMIPA UI – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Strengthen Steps Towards Internationalization

In the spirit of strengthening global academic networks, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) welcomed an academic visit from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on Wednesday (May 21). This activity marks the second step in building a strategic cross-country collaboration aimed at expanding knowledge exchange, innovative research, and human resource capacity development.

The visit began with a guest lecture delivered by Dr. Mohd Zamri bin Mohd Yusop from UTM’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, on the topic “Advanced Imaging Techniques in Biological Sciences.” The lecture, held in the Prof. Dr. G.A. Siwabessy Hall, was not only an opportunity for knowledge exchange but also strengthened interdisciplinary collaboration.

Next, a formal meeting was held at the FMIPA UI Central Administration Building, UI Depok Campus. The meeting was chaired by the Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., and attended by Dr. Zamri and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Syafiqah Saidin, along with several doctoral students from UTM. In a relaxed yet open atmosphere, both parties presented their institutional profiles, flagship programs, and potential collaboration opportunities. These included undergraduate and graduate student exchange programs, joint seminars in biotechnology and biomaterials, as well as possible collaborative research in developing technologies for applications in biological sciences.

“Through this excellent meeting and opportunity for discussion, I hope we can expand our collaboration in the future,” said Dr. Zamri optimistically.

In agreement, Prof. Dede also expressed his enthusiasm about the potential collaborations that could soon be realized. “We can start with smaller-scale partnerships, such as organizing mini seminars,” he said.

The event was also attended by the Chair of the Master’s and Doctoral Program in Materials Science at FMIPA UI, as well as lecturers from the Biology Department including Dr. Fadhillah, Dr. Ratna Yuniati, and Dr. Windri Handayani. This meeting served as a dynamic forum for sharing experiences and opened concrete opportunities for developing joint research programs, student and faculty exchanges, and organizing public lectures across institutions.

“We hope this meeting can be the beginning of broader and sustainable collaboration between FMIPA UI and UTM, in line with the internationalization vision we are currently promoting at FMIPA UI,” concluded Prof. Dede.
