Muhammad Ishaidir Siregar, a student of FMIPA UI from the Geophysics study program 2017 managed to carve out two achievements at once in two petroleum competitions. The first achievement was obtained in a national competition, namely 1st Winner Indonesian Society of Petroleum Geologists (ISPG) Challenge 2021 which was achieved on April 5, 2021, while the second achievement was obtained at an international competition, namely Runner-Up Petrosmart Competition Petroleum Integrated Days 2021 which was achieved on April 10, 2021.
In the 2021 ISPG Challenge competition which focuses on case study analysis (case study), Ishaidir joined the Wildcat Team with three of his colleagues, namely Alya Dhiya (Geoscience 2017), Ferdino R (Geoscience FMIPA UI 2017), and Teddy Ivan (Petroleum Engineering Pertamina University 2017). They managed to eliminate four other teams in the Final Presentation round. In this competition, Ishaidir admitted that his role in the team was to analyze geophysical data, seismic data, and well data needed to produce oil.
Meanwhile, in the Petrosmart Competition which is a quiz competition in the form of a knowledge contest between participants through questions covering technical and non-technical aspects of the oil and gas industry, Ishaidir joined the Lacustrine Team with two of his colleagues, namely Farhan Palgunadi (Bioprocess Engineering FT UI 2018) and Savira Alivia Salsabila (Chemical Engineering FT UI 2019). They won second place after competing with 11 other finalists. Together with the Lacustrine team, Ishaidir deepened his knowledge related to the topic of Geological and Geophysical (G&G), where G&G is knowledge in finding and identifying a property that has the potential to produce oil and natural gas that can be commercialized.
In an interview with the FMIPA UI Public Relations Team, Ishaidir hopes that these two achievements can be a spur for other FMIPA UI students to dare to try to participate in various activities outside the academic world, including competitions.
“The hope is, hopefully with the champions of this competition, it will make other (FMIPA UI students) more enthusiastic to join competitions. Hopefully, no one will think that joining a competition is only for smart kids. Stereotypes like that must be removed,” said Ishaidir.
“By joining the competition, we will challenge ourselves. So, what we have learned in lectures should be brought to the competition. That’s what’s interesting about joining the competition,” Ishaidir added, closing the interview.
