FMIPA UI Holds Virtual Graduation Ceremony, Dean: Alumni Must Continue Collaborating on Innovation

The implementation of the Even Semester Graduation Ceremony of the 2019/2020 Academic Year of FMIPA UI was the most different graduation ceremony compared to previous graduation ceremonies because this graduation ceremony was held virtually.

While still implementing health protocols to suppress the spread of COVID-19, the FMIPA UI Virtual Graduation was held for two consecutive days on Friday, October 16, 2020 for undergraduate programs and October 17, 2020 for master’s and doctoral programs.
In this semester, FMIPA UI graduated a total of 486 graduates consisting of 411 undergraduate graduates, 75 master’s graduates, and 3 doctoral graduates.

Although the graduates attended virtually from their respective homes, the ceremony took place solemnly with the in-person presence of Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng., Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, in the Sinarmas Hall, Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia – PT. Pertamina (Persero), to conduct the ceremony and offer congratulations to all graduates.

In his remarks, Dr. Rokhmatuloh advised the graduates to continue to foster a sense of belonging, love, and care for their surroundings, especially their families, to work together through the Covid-19 pandemic in a healthy and safe manner.
“Amidst the ongoing pandemic, we hope and encourage the graduates to continue fostering a sense of belonging and a sense of crisis within the surrounding community so that we, our families, our neighbors, and the community around us can get through this pandemic healthy and safe,” said the Dean of FMIPA UI in his opening remarks.

Addressing the graduates, he also committed to enhancing the academic reputation of FMIPA UI by improving three key elements: Academic Reputation, Faculty/Student Ratio, and Citation Index. These three factors, Dr. Rokhmatuloh continued, are both crucial factors and challenges in fostering sustainable international collaboration.

However, to achieve all of that, he emphasized that FMIPA UI requires contributions and collaboration among its alumni in creating innovations, especially in the current pandemic situation that has hit the nation.

The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, continued, explaining that innovation is born from strong collaboration across multiple disciplines. Therefore, he believes it is crucial to build and strengthen such collaborations with both domestic and international partners.
“New challenges and phases are upon us, so we must continue to contribute and innovate, regardless of the current global situation. Collaboration in innovation is also crucial, and we must continue to strengthen it with both domestic and international partners.”

Collaboration with UI Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences alumni has resulted in the development of various relevant products to prevent the current transmission of COVID-19. These products include personal protective equipment/air-purifying respirators, portable disinfection devices with 25nm UV light, room sterilization devices/Clean Blue Technology, respiratory sterilizers for COVID-19/TB patients, smart ventilators, and a spatial COVID-19 information system.
