Depok, January 8, 2026 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) held an online Socialization of the 2026 Student Creativity Program (PKM) on Thursday (1/8). This activity was aimed at all undergraduate students of FMIPA UI to boost participation and improve the quality of PKM proposals at both the university and national levels.
The Student Creativity Program (PKM) is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikti Saintek RI), providing funding of up to more than IDR 8 million per team, along with various incentives and awards. PKM serves as a student competition across eight funding categories and two incentive categories, culminating in the National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS).
The Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs at FMIPA UI, Prof. Anom Bowolaksono, Ph.D., stated that PKM serves as a strategic learning space beyond regular coursework. Through PKM, students are trained to hone soft skills, integrate ideas across disciplines, and transform them into concepts that have a real-world impact.
“PKM is an important learning space outside the classroom for students. Through this program, they are trained to hone soft skills, integrate ideas, and generate concepts, while also promoting cross-disciplinary collaboration to strengthen capacity and competitiveness,” said Prof. Anom.
The Student Affairs Manager of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr. Dewi Susiloningtyas, S.Si., M.Si., emphasized that PKM is not merely a competition, but a strategic platform for developing students as scientific individuals, in alignment with the Key Performance Indicators in the student affairs domain.
“PKM is not just a competition, but a strategic platform for developing students as scientific individuals. This program aligns with the university’s priorities and encourages FMIPA UI students to enhance their competence, creativity, and contributions to society,” she explained.
The Head of Student Achievement Subdirectorate at the UI Directorate of Student Affairs and Scholarships, Dr. Aflian Syahmadan Siagian, described FMIPA UI’s PKM socialization as a strategic first step at the university level. He explained that evaluations of last year’s PKM had been conducted to improve the quality of PKM 2026, along with plans for socializing with supervising lecturers and providing technical guidance on proposals.
“The PKM socialization at FMIPA UI serves as a starting point for other faculties to conduct similar activities. The Directorate of Student Affairs and the PKM Center at UI have evaluated previous implementations and will hold socialization sessions as well as technical guidance for supervising lecturers and PKM proposals,” said Dr. Aflian.
The socialization material was presented by Imam Sarif Hidayat from the UI PKM Center, who outlined the PKM process over 9 to 10 months, starting from proposal selection, funding, monitoring and evaluation, up to the PKP2 and PIMNAS stages. According to him, PKM provides valuable experience, an academic portfolio, and opportunities for competitive personal development at the national level.
During the event, various PKM themes were also presented, including public health and nutrition; poverty and corruption eradication; food self-sufficiency; energy and water; drug prevention; strengthening education; science and technology; environmental conservation and disaster mitigation; preservation of arts, culture, and the creative economy; promotion of gender equality and protection of vulnerable groups; as well as economic equity, MSME empowerment, and the development of the National Capital (IKN).
The PKM funding categories include Exact Science Research (RE), Social and Humanities Research (RSH), Technology Implementation (PI), Community Service (PM), Entrepreneurship (K), Creative Work (KC), Innovative Work (KI), and Constructive Idea Video (VGK). Meanwhile, the incentive categories cover Written Futuristic Ideas (GFT) and Scientific Articles (AI).
The socialization also featured the PHY-DESTRON Team, FMIPA UI students who successfully qualified for PIMNAS 2025: Kuncoro Nugroho, S.M., Ahmad Amartia Nurfiqri, and Rafi Suryo Saputro. They shared their experiences and strategies for preparing successful PKM proposals, as well as practical tips for navigating the selection process up to the PIMNAS final stage. The session continued with an interactive Q&A, allowing participants to gain direct insights from these high-achieving students.
Through this socialization activity, FMIPA UI hopes that students will gain a better understanding of the PKM process, schemes, and opportunities, and be motivated to submit high-quality and competitive proposals. Moving forward, FMIPA UI, together with the UI PKM Center, is committed to conducting follow-up socialization, intensive guidance, and mentorship to enhance students’ achievements in the national-level PKM competition.
