Depok, April 27, 2026 — The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) reaffirmed its commitment to actively support biodiversity conservation efforts through strengthened research collaboration and community engagement with the Perhimpunan Biologi Indonesia (PBI) and Balai Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun Salak (TNGHS). This collaboration declaration event was held in commemoration of Earth Day 2026 and took place in a hybrid format at the Prof. Dr. G.A. Siwabessy Hall, FMIPA UI, as well as via Zoom, aligning with Earth Day, which is observed annually on April 22.
As the host, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) served as a strategic platform for bringing together academics, practitioners, government representatives, and professional organizations to build cross-sector synergy in addressing increasingly complex conservation challenges.
The Vice Dean for Resources, Venture, and General Administration of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), Ivandini Tribidasari Anggraningrum, stated that this collaboration reflects the active role of the university in bridging scientific knowledge with its practical implementation in the field.
“FMIPA UI views this collaboration not only as a means of strengthening research, but also as a tangible form of community engagement and academic contribution to in situ biodiversity conservation efforts. The university serves as a collaborative space that brings together various stakeholders to generate science-based solutions,” she stated.
The event also featured the Chairperson of the Perhimpunan Biologi Indonesia (PBI) for the 2025–2029 period, Luthfiralda Sjahfirdi, who is a Professor of Conservation in the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI). In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of the scientific community’s role in supporting research-based conservation efforts.
“Through its scientific networks, the Perhimpunan Biologi Indonesia (PBI), together with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), holds a strategic position in developing research that is not only academically उत्कृष्ट but also relevant and directly impactful for communities and the management of conservation areas,” said Luthfiralda Sjahfirdi.

The Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE), Satyawan Pudyatmoko, emphasized that collaboration with academic institutions such as the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) is key to advancing adaptive, science-based management of conservation areas, particularly in addressing challenges such as climate change and habitat degradation.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Balai Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun Salak (TNGHS), Didid Sulastiyo, stated that the partnership with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) and the Perhimpunan Biologi Indonesia (PBI) is expected to generate sustainable programs as well as scientific recommendations that support conservation policies and sustainable development.
Through this collaboration, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) strengthens its role as a center for scientific development that directly contributes to environmental conservation. The Gunung Halimun Salak National Park is also expected to serve as a natural laboratory for the academic community to develop applied and impactful research.
The momentum of Earth Day 2026, under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet” serves as a reminder that synergy among academics, government, and society is key to maintaining the sustainability of the planet. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) remains committed to fostering strategic collaborations that generate innovation and tangible solutions for the conservation of Indonesia’s biodiversity.
