CMPB, the Institute of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, Wins the 2022 BAPETEN Award

The Center for Medical Physics and Biophysics, University of Indonesia (CMPB UI), which is one of the Applied Science Institutes (LST) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), won the 2022 BAPETEN Award entitled “Collaborative Strategy for Supervision of Nuclear Energy Utilization to Build Public Trust” in the Category of Conformity Testing Institutions and Nuclear Energy Training Institutions, Tuesday, (11/8/2022), at the Grand Ballroom Pullman 1, Hotel Pullman Central Park Jakarta.

The performance of CMPB UI as a Nuclear Energy Conformity Testing Institute and Training Institute is assessed as being appropriate and fulfilling the management and technical requirements within the scope of its appointment.

Ir. Sugeng Sumbarjo, M.Eng., Acting Head of BAPETEN, stated that the winners were assessed based on their commitment and excellent performance in Radiation Safety and/or Radioactive Source Safety, as well as in the application of radiation safety optimization for radiology patients.

“Therefore, BAPETEN will continue to encourage every agency to compete to receive the BAPETEN Award,” he said.

BAPETEN also uses the BAPETEN Award as an indicator to show that the objectives of supervision, namely increasing legal awareness of nuclear energy users to create a safety culture in the nuclear sector; and to ensure the maintenance and improvement of officer discipline in the implementation of nuclear energy utilization, have been achieved.

Head of CMPB UI, Dr. Supriyanto Ardjo Pawiro, M.Si. said that CMPB UI as the Center for Medical Physics and Biophysics has been dedicated to providing conformity testing services and services, as well as education and training services related to Medical Physics and Biophysics since 2014. These services include training on conformity testing of radiology equipment for hospital partners.

“CMPB UI has been a testing laboratory that has opened training and radiology equipment suitability testing services for many partner hospitals since 2014 under the Medical Physics and Biophysics Laboratory unit,” said Dr. Supriyanto.

The services provided by CMPB UI are divided into two divisions: the conformity testing and service division and the education and training division. The quality assurance division of CMPB UI is also part of CMPB UI to ensure the quality assurance of the service and training activities organized by CMPB UI is well managed.

To date, the public service institution previously under the auspices of the Medical Physics and Biophysics Laboratory (LFMB) of the Department of Physics, FMIPA UI, has organized numerous diagnostic and interventional radiology X-ray testing activities in many hospitals from Aceh to Papua, 6 training batches of qualified examiners for diagnostic and interventional radiology X-ray machines, 7 training batches of radiation protection officers. In addition, CMPB UI has also organized 9 training batches for Medical Physicists and 7 residency batches for specialist medical physicists.

The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (UI), Dede Djuhana Ph.D., expressed his highest appreciation for this achievement. He stated that this award is a proud achievement for the Faculty and also a recognition of the Faculty’s commitment to providing excellent service to the community through the services provided by the CMPB UI.

This commitment, the Dean continued, has also been proven through the accreditation process by CMPB UI from the National Standardization Agency (BSN) through the National Accreditation Committee (KAN) in June 2022.

“FMIPA UI continues to be committed to providing excellent services to the community in terms of nuclear energy related to the utilization, development, and mastery of nuclear science and technology to the supervision of activities related to nuclear energy through the CMPB UI service,” said the Dean.

In its 8th year, Bapeten awarded 267 institutions and individuals. The awards were presented to 79 medical institutions, 134 research and industrial institutions for permit holders in the field of radiation facilities and radioactive substances, 27 institutions for the category of radiation safety optimization for radiology patients, 6 conformity testing institutions, 2 training institutions, 11 radiation protection officers, 3 officers in the aspect of safeguards and additional protocols and 5 provinces, namely DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Central Java and Banten.

The 2022 BAPETEN Award is given to the License Holders in the Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Substances category; Radiation Protection Officers in the Radiation Facilities and Radioactive Substances category; Officers in the Safeguards and Additional Protocols aspect; Conformity Testing Institutions and Nuclear Energy Training Institutions, who have excellent commitment and performance in Radiation Safety and/or Radioactive Source Security as well as in implementing radiation safety optimization for radiology patients.

In addition, the BAPETEN Award is also given to regional heads who have a high commitment to efforts to improve the culture of nuclear safety and security through coaching for nuclear energy users in their regions.
