Friday (April 26, 2019) In commemoration of Disaster Preparedness Day, which falls on April 26 each year, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Indonesia (UI) participated in conducting an emergency response simulation for earthquakes and fires at the FMIPA UI Dean’s Office building.
This simulation was conducted in accordance with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Director’s call for simultaneous disaster simulations across units/higher education institutions, with the aim of fostering integrated, planned, and sustained training to enhance public awareness, vigilance, and preparedness toward a disaster-resilient Indonesia.
The activity, which involved leaders and educational staff from several units of the FMIPA UI Faculty Administration Center, was led by Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng. (Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, FMIPA UI) along with the FMIPA UI K3L team as facilitators, and the FMIPA UI security team.
After a brief briefing, the residents and academic community members of FMIPA UI directly participated in the simulation.
Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng., Deputy Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration at FMIPA UI, explained that the simulation aimed to familiarize residents and academic staff of FMIPA UI with appropriate actions during a disaster, while also assessing their preparedness in facing such situations.
As Rokhmatuloh further explained, the arrival of a disaster often causes panic among those who experience it.
“This simulation was conducted to determine our level of preparedness in the event of a disaster, particularly at the FMIPA building, whether it be an earthquake or a fire,” added Rokhmatuloh.
This remote sensing expert, who graduated from Chiba University in Japan, also appreciated the enthusiasm of his staff in conducting this simulation to support the creation of a safe and disaster-ready FMIPA UI.
