Depok, September 9, 2025 — Five students from the Master’s Program in Medical Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Indonesia (UI), will take part in an international internship program at Universitätsklinikum Ulm and Universitätsklinikum Freiburg, Germany. This program is part of an international collaboration between UI and Ulm University, supported by funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Germany, through the DAAD Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – UI project.
The five selected students are Arifin Ahmad, Assyifa Rahman Hakim, Fany Zahra Hanifa, Fira Dwi Ananda, and Mohammad Sidik Cahyana. They are scheduled to leave for Germany on September 15, 2025, to undertake their internship at Universitätsklinikum Ulm, and in November 2025 at Universitätsklinikum Freiburg.
Arifin Ahmad and Fany Zahra Hanifa will carry out their internship program at Universitätsklinikum Freiburg, under the supervision of Dr. sc.hum. Dwi Seno Kuncoro Sihono, S.Si., M.Si., a lecturer in Medical Physics at FMIPA UI, as well as Prof. Dr. Dimos Baltas, Head of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Universitätsklinikum Freiburg.
Meanwhile, Assyifa Rahman Hakim, Fira Dwi Ananda, and Mohammad Sidik Cahyana will take part in the internship program at Ulm University, under the guidance of Dr. sc.hum. Deni Hardiansyah, a lecturer in Medical Physics at FMIPA UI, as well as Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Gerhard Glatting, an expert in Medical Radiation Physics from the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Ulm University.
During their time in Germany, the participants will take part in various academic activities, including visits to hospitals and healthcare facilities, introductions to high-tech medical equipment, and research training in the field of medical physics. The program is designed to provide hands-on experience in both clinical and international laboratory settings.
Prof. Supriyanto Ardjo Pawiro, M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the Master’s Program in Medical Physics at FMIPA UI and academic coordinator of the program, stated that this experience is expected to broaden the participants’ perspectives, particularly in the clinical and research fields, as well as enhance the quality of human resources in the field of medical physics in Indonesia.
“Through this program, participants are expected to gain significant international experience in education and research, while also contributing to the enhancement of human resources in medical physics in Indonesia,” said Prof. Supriyanto.
This internship program is part of a project initiated by the Medical Physics and Biophysics Research Group (KBI) of FMIPA UI. Previously, the group received an international grant worth €292,717, or around IDR 5 billion, from DAAD and BMZ. The funds are used to support academic mobility, curriculum development, and research collaboration between FMIPA UI and Ulm University.
The student selection process was carried out through administrative screening and interviews. The selection included assessments of TOEFL scores, Grade Point Average (GPA), and motivation letters. Out of nine applicants from various universities—UI, Hasanuddin University, Bandung Institute of Technology, and Diponegoro University—five students from FMIPA UI were declared successful.
Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the students’ achievement. He emphasized that participation in international programs is an important step toward improving the quality of higher education in Indonesia.
“We are proud of the selection of five Medical Physics students from FMIPA UI for this prestigious program. This serves as proof of the academic quality of our students and also reflects the faculty’s commitment to promoting the internationalization of education,” he said.
Prof. Dede expressed his hope that this experience would serve as an important stepping stone in the students’ academic and professional careers, as well as make a tangible contribution to the development of medical physics in Indonesia.
This program is also in line with FMIPA UI’s efforts to continuously strengthen international collaboration and to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of health and higher education.
