Depok, July 14, 2025 – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) received a visit from the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) in order to socialize the Degree by Research (DbR) Program and the LPDP Targeted National Strategic Scholarship.
The event, which took place in the Prof. Dr. Ir. Soemantri Brodjonegoro Hall, was attended by postgraduate students and lecturers from various study programs within the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia.

The event was opened by Dr. Lukmanda Evan Lubis, M.Si., F.Med., Manager of Cooperation, Ventures, and Alumni Relations of FMIPA UI who represented the Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D.
In his remarks, Dr. Evan expressed his appreciation to BRIN for the initiative to organize the socialization, which was considered very important for developing the academic and research capacity of the academic community.
“Hopefully, through this outreach, students and alumni can gain a more comprehensive understanding of the two programs and be motivated to prepare themselves thoroughly, both academically and administratively,” said Dr. Evan.
He also emphasized FMIPA UI’s commitment to continue supporting the academic community’s efforts to achieve higher education and contribute to the development of science.
This socialization presented several key speakers from BRIN, namely Dr. Maman Kartaman Ajiriyanto as Head of the Research Center for Nuclear Materials and Radioactive Waste Technology, Dr. rer. biol. hum. Heru Prasetio as Head of the Research Center for Nuclear Metrology and Quality Safety Technology, and Dr. Ajeng Arum Sari, S.T., Director of Talent Management BRIN.

In his remarks, Dr. Syaiful Bakhri, Head of the BRIN Nuclear Energy Research Organization, explained that the Degree by Research Program is an educational funding scheme designed to increase the capacity of research and innovation talent through research, development, assessment, and application (litbangjirap) activities integrated with formal education at the master’s (S2) and doctoral (S3) levels.
“Through collaboration with universities, including the University of Indonesia, we hope to strengthen research collaboration. Students will not only pursue academic education but also actively participate in research with BRIN,” he said.
In their presentation, Dr. Maman and Dr. Heru explained the Nuclear Technology Research and Collaboration Program, a strategic initiative within the framework of the 2025–2029 National Nuclear Technology Program.
“This program focuses on human resource development through doctoral and postdoctoral scholarship schemes, as well as research collaborations on three main platforms: Accelerator Science and Technology, Nuclear Reactor and Fuel Technology, and other Nuclear Technology Applications,” said Dr. Maman.
Collaboration is also expanded through the Joint Research Platform, which includes visits and hands-on training, as well as opportunities for collaboration with foreign visiting researchers.

In the next session, Dr. Ajeng Arum Sari revealed that currently there are 1,488 domestic students who have become recipients of the Degree by Research Program, with the University of Indonesia recorded as the institution with the most recipients, namely 424 students.
“DbR is a golden opportunity, make the most of your chance as a DbR student to grow, so that you become a superior research and innovation talent for an advanced Indonesia,” said Ajeng.
He also introduced the BRIN–LPDP National Strategic Scholarship which is focused on four priority areas for the next five years, namely: Advanced Biodiversity Utilization (200 candidates), Deep Sea and Maritime (30 candidates), Radiation and Nuclear Technology (170 candidates), and Space and Aerospace (100 candidates).
Ajeng also emphasized the importance of synergy and effective communication between students, co-promoters from BRIN, and promoters at universities in implementing the DbR scheme. She hopes that students will not only develop academically but also be able to work collaboratively in teams, utilize research facilities according to procedures, and actively participate in self-development programs.
The Education Manager of FMIPA UI, Rika Tri Yunarti, S.Si., M.Eng., Ph.D., invited all academics to make the most of this opportunity.
“We encourage students and lecturers to use these programs as a bridge to access educational funding and expand their research networks. This is an opportunity to produce impactful and relevant research for Indonesia’s progress,” said Rika.
Previously, FMIPA UI had also established a research collaboration with BRIN, which involved the Faculty Administration Center and several departments, including Mathematics, Biology, Geography, and Geosciences.
This activity is expected to be a solid first step in strengthening collaboration between universities and national research institutions, in order to produce superior researchers who are ready to face future challenges.
