FMIPA UI Holds Awareness Refreshment Ahead of ISO 9001:2015 Recertification

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), held an ISO 9001:2015 Refreshment Awareness event as part of its preparations for the quality management system recertification process. The event took place on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in the Auditorium of the Pertamina Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building, FMIPA UI, on the UI Depok Campus.

This step was taken following the validity period of the ISO 9001:2015 certification that the FMIPA UI Administration Center has obtained from DQS Certification Indonesia with registration number 50200185 QM15, which will end on September 10, 2025. For this reason, FMIPA UI is preparing to undergo an internal audit on August 5-8, and an external audit on August 26-27, as part of the recertification process.

The Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., in his remarks emphasized that this activity is important to strengthen the understanding of all work units regarding the principles of quality management, especially in facing organizational dynamics and the need for service improvement.

“Over the past four years, many changes have occurred, both in organizational structure and service standards. ISO is not just a procedure; it also encourages us to maintain what’s already good and improve what isn’t. Collaboration between units is key,” he said.

Prof. Dede emphasized the importance of aligning FMIPA UI with university policies, in line with changes in the organizational structure and unit names at UI since the new rector’s leadership. These changes impact coordination, task allocation, and reporting systems, which need to be aligned with the new structure.

“We need to be more in line with the programs at the rectorate. This is both a challenge and an opportunity for continued improvement,” he added.

The Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, S.Si., M.Si., echoed this sentiment. He stated that the ISO 9001:2015 standard implemented at FMIPA UI is not merely a formality, but rather a concrete manifestation of the faculty’s commitment to providing quality, efficient, and stakeholder-oriented services.

“This refresher activity is important to align perceptions and update understanding of the latest version of ISO. Furthermore, it’s also part of our efforts to strengthen a culture of quality in our workplace,” explained Prof. Tito.

This refresher session consisted of two sessions: a presentation on quality management principles and a training session and simulation of an internal quality audit. The primary objective was to provide participants with a practical understanding of how to plan, implement, and follow up on internal audits effectively and in accordance with standards.

Present as a resource person was Dr. Ir. Muhammad Habiburrahman, M.T., an ISO 9001 and ISO 21001 practitioner in educational organizations. In his presentation, he explained various crucial aspects of ISO 9001:2015, from the clause structure and the PDCA cycle to the risk-based approach.

He emphasized that the audit is not aimed at finding errors, but rather ensuring that procedures are running according to the quality management system and opening up opportunities for continuous improvement.

“The opportunity in question is an opportunity to improve service quality, not just corrections, but a transformation towards better governance,” said the researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia.

ISO 9001:2015 recertification is considered crucial for FMIPA UI in maintaining the trust of its academic community, partners, and the wider community. Furthermore, it is part of the faculty’s ongoing efforts to instill quality values in all aspects of educational services, research, and administration.
