The Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Universitas Indonesia (UI), welcomed an academic visit from the Actuarial Science Undergraduate Program of Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA) on Thursday, May 15. This activity was conducted as part of curriculum benchmarking and to strengthen the preparation for the accreditation of UNESA’s study program.
The visit, held at the Mathematics Department Building of FMIPA UI on the UI Depok Campus, was warmly welcomed by the Head of the Mathematics Department FMIPA UI, Prof. Alhadi Bustamam, S.Si., M.Kom., Ph.D., along with the Head of the Actuarial Science Undergraduate Program FMIPA UI, Dr. Suci Fratama Sari, M.Si. The UNESA delegation was led by the Coordinator of the Actuarial Science Undergraduate Program, Affiati Oktaviarina, S.Si., M.Sc., accompanied by two UNESA lecturers, Dimas Avian Maulana, M.Si. and Danang Ariyanto, M.Si.
The meeting focused on discussions regarding curriculum development, particularly in the effort to prepare the accreditation documents for the Independent Accreditation Institute for Natural Sciences and Formal Sciences (LAMSAMA) by UNESA. In a warm and constructive discussion atmosphere, both parties shared experiences and learning strategies, including academic quality assurance systems.
One of the main topics in the meeting was the integration of the curriculum with the examination modules from the Society of Actuaries of Indonesia (PAI). The Bachelor’s Program in Actuarial Science, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), has aligned several courses with certification modules A10 to A70, which form the foundation for the Associate Actuary certification.
“The alignment of the curriculum with professional standards provides significant added value for students, as it allows them to prepare for the actuarial certification exams while still in college,” said Dr. Suci.
In addition to the curriculum, the discussion also covered the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program that has been adopted by FMIPA UI, including student exchange schemes, internship programs, and student involvement in research.
“UNESA is very interested in the MBKM schemes we have implemented, such as student exchange programs, internships, and involvement in research. This creates a valuable space for collaboration between universities,” added Dr. Suci.
Affiati Oktaviarina, the Study Program Coordinator at UNESA, welcomed the collaboration. “We have learned a lot from UI, especially in developing a curriculum that is adaptive to industry needs and professional certification. This is very helpful for us in the accreditation process and long-term planning,” she stated.
On that occasion, several lecturers from the Undergraduate Program in Actuarial Science at FMIPA UI were also present, including Dr. Fevi Novkaniza, M.Si., Sindy Devila, M.Si., and Fida Fathiyah Addini, M.Si.
This benchmarking activity not only served as a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience, but also opened up opportunities for ongoing collaboration between UI and UNESA, such as joint research initiatives and the organization of public lectures.
