Sad news came from the Student Affairs Unit of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI). Student Affairs Manager Faris Zulkarnain, S. Si., M.T. who is also a lecturer in the Department of Geography passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD), Central Jakarta, at 06.30 WIB.
Sad news came from the Student Affairs Unit of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI). Student Affairs Manager Faris Zulkarnain, S. Si., M.T. who is also a lecturer in the Department of Geography passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022 at the Gatot Subroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD), Central Jakarta, at 06.30 WIB.
His sudden departure came as a surprise to the FMIPA UI extended family. Previously, he was reported to have experienced health problems and underwent surgery in early May 2022. However, after that, he was known to be actively coordinating again through aplikasi whatsapp dengan beberapa staf lintas unit.
The extended family of FMIPA UI also mourns his passing. Condolences and feelings of loss were also conveyed by the extended family across faculties in the University of Indonesia environment through WhatsApp messages between faculty leaders and public relations, as well as social media.
He was born on August 26, 1991. He left behind a wife. The deceased was a student of the geography study program, FMIPA UI, class of 2009 and graduated in 2013. He continued his education to the master’s level in civil engineering study program at the Faculty of Engineering (FT) UI, and graduated in 2017.
After completing his master’s studies, he returned to the Geography department as a lecturer with expertise in water resources modeling.
He then entered the ranks of the FMIPA UI leadership for the 2021-2025 period as the FMIPA UI student manager with a term of office of 2022-2025. He was inaugurated together with other new leaders on March 30, 2022 at the Royal Tulip Gunung Geulis Hotel, Bogor.
As a student manager, he is quite active in coordinating and attending meetings both face-to-face and virtually. He also served as the chair of the Odd Semester Virtual Graduation on March 6, 2022.
As a tribute and expression of gratitude for his dedication, the leadership of FMIPA UI initiated the holding of a tahlil and joint prayer with the extended family of FMIPA UI for the deceased tonight, at 18.30 WIB via the zoom meeting platform.
