FMIPA UI Students Win Championship in National-Level Data Competition

Students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), have once again achieved outstanding success at the national level. In Arkavidia 9.0, an information technology competition organized by the Informatics Student Association of ITB, two FMIPA UI student teams won 2nd and 3rd place in the Datavidia competition category.

The Bukan Amigos team, consisting of Aurelio Naufal Effendy, Favian Sulthan Wafi, and Rifqi Hafizuddin (Statistics class of 2021), secured 2nd place. Meanwhile, the Deepsick team, made up of Farhan Akhtar Gymnasiar, Mohammad Raffy Zeidan (Statistics class of 2022), and Hilmy Rahmadani (Mathematics class of 2022), took 3rd place. The award ceremony was held during the Arkavidia 9.0 grand finale at Labtek V, Bandung Institute of Technology, on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

Datavidia is one of six competition categories at Arkavidia, testing participants’ analytical skills in processing and analyzing data to solve real-world problems using an approach data-driven.

In the final round, participants were asked to predict property rental prices based on property data with various attributes such as location, property type, building size, facilities, and other characteristics.

“We were required to think critically and work quickly to generate relevant insights. This competition was both a challenging and valuable experience for us,” said Aurelio Naufal Effendy, representative of the Bukan Amigos team, in an interview with the FMIPA UI Public Relations team.

In tackling the case study, both FMIPA UI teams applied a systematic and collaborative work strategy. They divided tasks according to each member’s expertise, starting with data cleaning and transformation (preprocessing), analisis eksploratif (exploratory data analysis/EDA), followed by the development and testing of predictive models.

The solutions offered by the FMIPA UI teams emphasized a modern analytical approach that delivers accurate insights and can be applied to support data-driven decision-making.

“The solution we offer aims to support data-driven decision-making, especially in predicting property rental prices,” he said.

The Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., appreciated the proud achievements of the students. “This achievement shows that our students not only excel in theoretical mastery but are also able to apply it creatively to solve real-world challenges,” said Prof. Dede.

Prof. Dede also reaffirmed FMIPA UI’s commitment to creating a learning ecosystem that supports the comprehensive development of students’ competencies.

“We always encourage students to actively participate in competitions and interdisciplinary collaborations, both at the national and international levels. Our hope is that they continue to grow into graduates who can make a real contribution to society,” he added.

Arkavidia 9.0 carried the theme “Unlock the Future – with Innovation & Collaboration”, and served as a platform for developing the interests and skills of students in the field of information technology. In addition to competitions, the event also featured seminars and talk show sessions that brought together practitioners, academics, and participants to exchange insights and experiences.
