In-Class Training Laboratory Safety Session 3

The Research and Community Service Unit (RPM) of FMIPA UI is once again collaborating with the UPT K3L Universitas Indonesia to organize “In-Class Training Laboratory Safety” on Tuesday (14/04/2015) by presenting guest speaker Dr. Arum Narumi, Ph.D., DEA. The theme of today’s in-class training is about “Biosafety and Biosecurity”.

Biosafety can be defined as a concept to secure people working with a dangerous biological object (biohazard) to avoid danger or accidents caused by the biological object in the laboratory. While biosecurity can be defined as an effort made to prevent contact/exposure/exposure between pathogens and agents so as to reduce the risk of spreading the pathogen’s toxicity. Biosafety and biosecurity are two things that are interrelated and aim to ensure safety from biological hazard accidents, especially for those working in the laboratory.

In-class training began with a short quiz to find out how far the participants have knowledge about laboratory safety, the event was then opened by the Manager of RPM FMIPA UI, Dr. Djoko Triyono, “The importance of this training is especially so that students and laboratory users can understand the knowledge and use of appropriate techniques and equipment to prevent the danger of exposure of individuals and their environment to potential biohazards.”
