Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra Officially Appointed as Dean of FMIPA UI 2025–2029, Ready to Strengthen the Reputation and Impact of Science for Indonesia

Universitas Indonesia (UI) has officially appointed Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, S.Si., M.Si. as the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) for the 2025–2029 term. The announcement was delivered directly by the Rector of UI, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, on Tuesday (25/11) at the Science Techno Park Building, UI Depok Campus. Prof. Tito was selected through a rigorous selection process, surpassing three other candidates: Prof. Dr. Vivi Fauzia, S.Si., M.Si.; Prof. Dr. Rokhmatuloh, S.Si., M.Eng.; and Dr. rer. nat. Yasman, M.Sc.

During the presentation of visions and missions held on Monday (24/11) at the UI Science Techno Park Building, the candidates outlined their proposed directions for the faculty’s development before UI leadership and panelists. In his presentation, which carried the tagline “Driven by Knowledge, Defined by Impact,” Prof. Tito introduced a vision to position FMIPA UI as a leading faculty in science and mathematics—one that can make tangible contributions to the advancement of scientific knowledge in Indonesia through quality education, innovative research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This vision was then translated into 20 Strategic Programs of FMIPA UI 2025–2029, formulated in alignment with UI’s five strategic goals and the 15 flagship programs of the UI Rector for 2025–2029, while remaining focused on the needs and potential of FMIPA UI as a national center of scientific excellence.

In his short-term strategy, Prof. Tito focuses the first three months on strengthening institutional capacity and funding through the development of competency and certification centers, the organization of the MIPA EXPO and the Patent Industrialization Program, as well as the development of MIPA Connect and an Endowment Fund scheme. Within the first six months, FMIPA UI will enhance its academic reputation through research breakthroughs by establishing stronger integrative research clusters and reinforcing FMIPA UI’s scientific journals. Entering the first 12 months, Prof. Tito targets the optimization of incentive schemes through the development of the Professor Hub and the implementation of performance-based incentives.

“In the first year, we will build a strong foundation: a more structured institution, more sustainable funding, and a more productive research ecosystem. I want to ensure that every lecturer, researcher, and student truly feels the tangible benefits of the changes we implement,” he said. He continued, “Through incentive schemes and platforms such as the Professor Hub, I aim to foster a more dynamic culture of performance and collaboration so that FMIPA UI’s academic achievements can increase significantly.”

For the long term, Prof. Tito set annual targets that reflect the direction of FMIPA UI’s transformation. In 2026, FMIPA UI is targeted to become a model of academic excellence. In 2027, the faculty will focus on innovation for financial growth. The year 2028 will be directed toward strengthening partnerships and global outreach, while in 2029, FMIPA UI aims to achieve accelerating world-class reputation as the culmination of the four-year strategic plan.

“Let us work together to make FMIPA UI a superteam, not a superman working alone. If we move forward together, I believe that Driven by Knowledge, Defined by Impact will not merely be a tagline, but something we can truly experience,” said Prof. Tito.

UI Rector, Prof. Heri, stated that this appointment is the result of a transparent, rigorous, and merit-based selection process. He emphasized that the selected deans and directors have demonstrated a deep understanding of the developmental direction of their respective faculties, as well as a strong commitment to integrating the Tri Dharma of Higher Education into their leadership.

“This decision is not merely about selecting faculty leaders, but also about ensuring that the University of Indonesia has figures capable of delivering excellent education, innovative research, and meaningful contributions to society,” said Prof. Heri.

He hopes that the newly appointed faculty and directorate leaders will serve as role models in upholding UI’s three core pillars—education, research and innovation, and community engagement—thereby strengthening a productive academic ecosystem, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, ensuring that research benefits the public, and accelerating UI’s transformation toward becoming an Excellent and Impactful institution.

The appointment of these nine selected deans and directors marks the culmination of a comprehensive selection process that included administrative verification, public input, and the presentation of their vision, mission, and work plans before the UI leadership. The process also involved panelists from diverse backgrounds with substantive expertise in higher education governance, faculty management, and relevant academic fields. The panel comprised senior academics from various faculties, experts in university management, industry professionals, and figures with a strong leadership track record in research and innovation, ensuring that the selection process was objective and credible.
