Regent of Jakarta, Thousand Islands Welcomed The Winter School Program Group

Wednesday, January 15, 2020, the Regent of the Seribu Islands, Drs. Husein Murad, M. Si. welcomed the group of the 2020 Winter School Program. Murad invited them to see the Karya Island area, an island that was previously only focused on government and police offices in the Seribu Islands, but is now developed for the public.

Along the Cikaya Beach in Karya Island, Yasman as the leader of the Winter School Program 2020 from FMIPA UI also explained about activities of the program would be some researches and socialization around Pramuka and Panggang Islands as its purpose is concern of conservation and sustainability in marine biodiversity.

Beside that, they also discussed about plastic pollution and its solutions. Pablo as one of Leiden University student, shared to the regent about canal for waste management in Amsterdam and also the regent shared about is the condition Seribu Islands.

Murad said “It’s such an honor to welcome winter school program that arranged by excellent universities. This is the chance and also challenge for us to develop and conserve our area as the center of marine biodiversity in Jakarta.”

Winter school program 2020 will continue the activities in Thousand Islands for next couple days. The students will present their activities result on ISMART (International Science and Mathematics Academics Research Talks) on 23 January 2020 at Multidisciplinary Building FMIPA UI.
