In preparation for the implementation of the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) assessment of the Undergraduate Mathematics Study Program (Prodi) FMIPA UI, today (14/3) at Building B Room 101, the Academic Quality Assurance Unit and the leaders of the Undergraduate Mathematics Study Program held a meeting with the Undergraduate Mathematics study program students, Teaching Staff, Educational Staff of the Faculty Administration Center (PAF) and Departments, to socialize the preparation for the implementation of the AUN-QA assessment. This socialization was also attended by the Dean of FMIPA UI and his staff.
In this socialization activity, Dr.rer.nat. Abdul Haris as the Dean of FMIPA UI explained the importance of FMIPA UI undergoing the AUN-QA assessment because in accordance with the Vision and Mission of FMIPA UI to become a science faculty that is able to play a role at the global level to advance science and sustainable development, FMIPA UI must obtain regional and international recognition.
“If we’re talking about global competition, we have no choice but to conduct (assessments) and pursue them. This means our Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at UI must be known andrecognized regionally and internationally,” said Abdul Haris.
However, Haris continued, the success of this assessment would not be achieved without the cooperation of all relevant parties. Therefore, he instructed the relevant parties, particularly the Mathematics undergraduate study program, to prepare the teaching staff, administrative staff, and students for this assessment.
The Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), Dr. Ratna Yuniati, explained that the AUN-QA preparation team has completed approximately 85% of the assessment preparation phase for the Mathematics Undergraduate Study Program. The final phase is the visitation phase by the AUN-QA assessor team, which will be held from April 10-12, 2018.
This visitation is the most important stage of the entire AUN-QA preparation process. It is during this stage that the AUN-QA assessor team will conduct a series of interviews and observations of the study program facilities.
The series of interviews will involve the leaders of FMIPA UI (Dean, Vice Deans for Fields I and II, managers, and heads of UPMA), Head of the Mathematics Undergraduate Study Program, teaching staff, educational staff, students, and alumni. This series of interviews aims to obtain comprehensive data on the practices that have been carried out by the FMIPA UI Mathematics Undergraduate Study Program, both inthe plan, do, checkandactionstages for all AUN-QA assessment criteria, namelyExpected Learning Outcomes, Program Specification, Program Structure and Content, Teaching and Learning Approach, Student Assessment, Academic Staff Quality, Support Staff Quality, Student Quality and Support, Facilities and Infrastructure, Quality Enhancement, Output.
Dra. Ariadne Laksmidevi, M.Eng., Ph.D., Deputy for Quality Assurance of Management, Human Resources, Facilities and Infrastructure, and Financing, who is also a lecturer in the Physics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, explained that AUN is an independent international body that plays a role in assessing the quality of higher education. This body is not an accreditation body, but encourages the process of improving the quality of education in higher education institutions as an effort to improve or equalize the quality standards of universities in ASEAN.
Meanwhile, the benefits for universities that have an ASEAN Level Institutional Assessment Certificate, continued Ariadne, include an objective picture of the status of academic culture, relevance to the world of work, and facilities owned by study programs, a bridge for study programs to reach the international level for ease of credit earning/credit transfer processes.
