The 2018 FMIPA UI Presidential Election Begins Today

Today, Monday (12/3), the 2018 Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres) for the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA UI) began. The event, which took place in Building C of the Faculty, was attended by the Dean, Vice Dean for Field I, education managers, cooperation managers, department heads, and heads of undergraduate study programs within the Faculty.

The agenda for today’s Pilmapres activity is the presentation of written works by participants who are representatives from each department in front of the judges and students who aresupportingparticipants.

The names of the participants are Grady Christianto & Hanna Tiara Andarlia representing the Department of Mathematics, Ade Ratna Tanjung P. & M. Risky Altaresh representing the Department of Physics, Shella Jeniferiani W. and Maria Magdalena representing the Department of Chemistry, Dhita Mutiara Nabella representing the Department of Biology, Yuniar Zweistika and Annisa Daniswara S. representing the Department of Geography.

Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris as the Dean of FMIPA UI officially opened this most prestigious event among students. In his remarks, he expressed his pride in his students, especially Yudhistira Oktaviandie, a biology student of FMIPA UI who last year won 1st place in the UI-level Outstanding Student (Mapres) event, and 2nd place in the national-level Outstanding Student. He admitted that only last year did FMIPA UI students succeed in achieving the position of champion in the Outstanding Student Event up to the national level.

As Dean, Haris motivates his students to be more active in academic programs and activities, as well as various competitions. They must not only compete at the national level but also be able to compete internationally. To support this, Haris instructed his staff to continuously encourage and monitor the progress and development of their students’ education.

“Students with academic potential must be prepared, monitored, and directed to consistently participate (in academic programs and activities),” Haris told his staff.

According to Haris, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of Indonesia (UI) has several international academic programs in collaboration with universities abroad. However, he believes student interest in participating in these activities is still very low. Consequently, only a small number of students participate in these cross-border activities. However, Haris continued, this is a valuable opportunity not to be missed.

“You have to take it. Don’t think twice, be brave and confident. This is for the sake of your career and academic success,” he added.

Before concluding his remarks, Haris encouraged the FMIPA UI students to improve their creativity and innovation. He also expressed his hope that this year’s FMIPA UI Pilmapres winner would maintain their position in the UI Pilmapres competition and serve as apositiverole model .
