The UI Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Contingent Won 8 Medals in the 2020 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition.

Eight FMIPA UI students who are members of the UI contingent won a number of medals in the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology competitions at the 2020 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition (KN-MIPA) 2020 (KN MIPA).

This was released online by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) of the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemdikbud) of the Republic of Indonesia on Thursday, September 10, 2020, at the peak of the event previously known as ON-MIPA.

In total, the UI contingent that successfully advanced to the national stage numbered eleven students. In addition to eight students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, three students from the Faculty of Medicine also participated.

Based on the Decree of the Head of the National Achievement Center of the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 1564/J3/KP/2020, 10 UI contingents were awarded 10 medals. These medals consisted of four gold, five silver, and one bronze.

The gold medals were won by Kelvin Tenata (FMIPA UI) in mathematics, Yuwanza Ramadhan (FMIPA UI) in physics, Abdullah Muqaddam (FK UI) in chemistry, and Maria Celinna (FMIPA UI) in biology.

Meanwhile, silver medals were won by Andry Wijaya (FMIPA UI), and Juan Daniel (FMIPA UI) in Mathematics, Muhammad Fauzan Syahbana (FMIPA UI) in Physics, Hilya Auliya (FMIPA UI) in Chemistry, and Syailendra Karuna Sugito (FK UI) in Biology. Meanwhile, the bronze medal was won by Michael Lesa (FMIPA UI) in Chemistry. All of these achievements brought the UI cross-faculty contingent to the second overall champion position.

Dr. Techn. Djoko Triyono, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Indonesia (UI), praised his team’s achievements. This year, the UI team won gold and silver medals in all the KN-MIPA competitions.

“This year, UI won gold medals in all the disciplines competed in: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with one gold medal each. UI also won the most silver medals.”

He further explained that the UI contingent’s preparations for the 2020 KN-MIPA were very thorough, starting with the internal selection process held last March, involving 116 prospective students from across UI faculties.

“We have prepared our contingent by conducting an internal selection in March. This internal selection is not only for students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, but also for students from other faculties. As a result, 116 students participated. This is good because it will instill a sense of competition from an early age in students, encouraging them to bring out their best abilities,” said Dr. Djoko.

The National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition (KN-MIPA) is a competition in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology which aims to encourage the competitiveness of Indonesian students amidst the challenges of globalization.

This annual competition, which was formerly ON-MIPA (National MIPA Olympiad), is organized by the National Achievement Center of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, involving students as contingents of PTN and PTS from Higher Education Service Institutions (LLDIKTI) Regions I to XV.
