This national-scale quiz competition consists of three stages. The first stage is the qualification stage, where participants are asked to answer 100 written questions in 60 minutes under virtual supervision. Then, in the second stage, or semifinals, participants will compete to answer questions verbally quickly, which will then determine the top nine teams with the highest scores. The mechanism for the final round is almost identical to the semifinals, but with more questions.
The team, named Turbidite Flow, stated that their initial motivation for participating in the competition was their desire to try something new and apply the knowledge they had learned in class, especially in their new seventh-semester courses, such as Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology. Baso, the team leader, also added that he was motivated by the opportunity to gain experience competing with students from other universities.
Novi, a team member, explained that good teamwork is essential for this competition. This was demonstrated by the fact that, even without a mentor, they were able to compete and outperform dozens of other student participants from various universities.
“When it comes to competitions, the form of cooperation we employ isn’t about dividing or determining the order of answers. Instead, we adhere to the principle of mutual support.” support dan percaya satu sama lain. Jadi, semua anggota tim berkesempatan menjawab kapan saja.” ujar Novi.
In accordance with the given Geoquiz theme, the quiz participants will be presented with questions related to earth science related to the quiz theme presented, namely “Geoscientist Mindset in Regional Development and Disasters”.
In addition, the Turbidite Flow team also talked about the challenges they faced, one of which was timeline yang bertepatan dengan UAS, sehingga sangat perlu menyesuaikan waktu dengan baik. Selain itu, mereka juga perlu me-review kembali pelajaran perkuliahan yang sudah lampau.

Despite this, the three of them were very grateful for the many benefits they gained from participating in the competition. These included applying the knowledge they gained in college to real-life problems, expanding their knowledge and relationships, and fostering strong character traits such as competitiveness, sportsmanship, humility, and a desire to learn.
“The most important thing is that competitions like this remind us that our knowledge is actually… No sebanyak yang kita kira karena di luar sana masih banyak orang-orang yang jauh lebih pintar daripada kita. Pengalaman ikut lomba menurut kita adalah pengalaman yang bener-bener humbling and eye-opening!” imbuh Rifa menambahkan pendapat teman-temannya.
Closing the discussion with the UI Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Public Relations Team, the Turbidite Flow team advised other Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences students to always strive for self-development, one way of doing this is by actively participating in competitions. Make the most of your time studying to gain experience and do meaningful things. Don’t let your own fears stop you from growing, because sometimes our biggest obstacle to moving forward is ourselves.
