UI Contingent Wins Third Place in International Smart Competition

Desta Suci Fitriani (Geophysics 2017), Jenny Azzahra (Chemical Engineering 2018), and Valdo Lohanda Setiawan (Environmental Engineering 2017) who were part of the UI student team won third place (2nd Runner Up of Smart Competition) in the International Smart Competition event, on March 11-13, 2020 at Padjadjaran University, Sumedang, West Java.

This International Smart Competition is one of the BOREYES: International Energy Fair series of events organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers Universitas Padjadjaran Student Chapter (SPE UNPAD SC).

In the quiz competition with the theme “Future Energy Development: Advancing Technology and Resources” In this, the three of them are required to beat the opposing team by answering the jury’s questions quickly and accurately.

The questions asked by the judges were closely related to the oil and gas industry, including earth exploration activities, petroleum production, earth sciences (geology & geophysics), and issues related to the oil and gas industry.

One of the team members, Desta, explained that he and his teammates had prepared for the competition for 2.5 months. Desta said the initial preparations involved 1.5 months of preparation for the competition, leaving them with just one month to finalize their preparations.

To the FMIPA UI public relations team, the 1999-born student who is a member of the SPE UI SC conveyed her impressions of the international quiz event.

He said, “Through this competition, we students are motivated to be even more enthusiastic in deepening our insight into the technical and non-technical aspects of the oil and gas industry.”

This is also in line with the objectives of holding this activity, namely encouraging students to compete with each other to broaden their knowledge about the oil and gas industry, as well as triggering students’ enthusiasm to compete healthily in creating ideas and innovations in the oil and gas sector.
