
Lecturers and students from the Department of Geography, members of the University of Indonesia Geography Study Group (KSG UI), held the 2019 Core Research (PENITI) activity with the theme “Dynamics of Karst Landscapes and Their Utilization for Local Communities” in Gunung Kidul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. The activity, chaired by Angga Kurniawansyah, was supported by Community Social Responsibility (CSR) Bank BCA.
Under the guidance of Dr. Triarko Nurlambang and equipped with research guidance from Dra. Astrid Damayanti, M.Si, Angga and his team of 35 people conducted this activity for five days, namely August 16-21, 2019.

In this PENITI activity, the KSG UI team was divided into five groups with different topic focuses ranging from cave ecotourism to beaches.
Angga He explained that the purpose of PENITI was to identify the potential for karst ecotourism development in Gunungkidul and to design sustainable tourism programs. This was evident in one of the research topics, “Management Strategy & Economic Value of Environmental Services in Pindul Cave Tourism.”
It’s not just about research. Angga continued, saying the UI KSG Team also held community service activities, disseminating the findings of their field research to CV Wirawisata, a travel agency in Pindul Cave.

In addition, the UI KSG team also presented the maps produced during the research. It is hoped that the 2019 PENITI program will significantly contribute to both scientific development and the local community, in accordance with the Tridharma of Higher Education: education, research, and community service.
