The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), through the Department of Mathematics, provided training and education to high school teachers in Depok and its surroundings on Friday, November 18, 2022, at the Mathematics Department Teaching Laboratory, UI Campus, Depok.
The training provided is about the use of CAS software (Computer Algebra System) on GeoGebra in 2-dimensional analytical geometry. A total of 39 participants attended this activity. Also present were the head of the Depok High School Mathematics MGMP, Mr. Subejo, S.Pd., MM. and the Head of the Jakarta High School Mathematics MGMP, Mr. Iman Santoso, M.Pd.
Head of the Mathematics Department Prof. Alhadi Bustamam, M.Kom., Ph.D. said that this training activity is a form of concern of the Mathematics Department of FMIPA UI in order to realize the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely community service.
“The purpose of this training is so that teachers in the Greater Jakarta area, especially in the Depok area, can utilize technological advances in the form of CAS on GeoGebra in the teaching and learning process,” said Prof. Alhadi to the FMIPA UI public relations team.
GeoGebra, according to the data science expert, is one of the software (software) is an easy-to-use application for interactively learning analytical geometry and assisting in creating analytical geometry problems. This software can be run on Android, iOS, Linux, and Windows operating systems.
This software is free to download on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. It was created by Markus Hohenwarter at the University of Salzburg, Austria, in 2001.
“GeoGebra has several perspectives in viewing mathematical objects, including: Graphing and Computer Algebra System (CAS),” imbuhnya.
Manager of Research and Community Service of FMIPA UI, Dr. Dipo Aldila, M.Si., in his remarks, “FMIPA UI encourages and fully supports community service activities by all lecturers at FMIPA. This activity is expected to become a downstreaming of research results within the campus environment, while also being able to provide real benefits to the community,” said Dr. Dipo.
The activity continued with a presentation of material by Dr. Hengki Tasman, S.Si., M.Si. The material presented was the theory of geometric objects in 2-dimensional space (such as lines, circles, line bundles and circle bundles) using the CAS perspective. Several examples of problems solved using the perspective were also given. CAS and Graphing.
The other lecturers as resource persons are, Dra. Siti Aminah, M.Kom., Dra. Nora Hariadi, M.Si., Rahmi Rusin, S.Si., M.Sc.Tech., Ph.D., Dra. Bevina D. Handari, M.Sc., Ph.D. and Prof. Alhadi Bustamam, S.Si., M.Kom., Ph.D.
The training also involved Rahma Rosaliana Saraswati, a Master’s student from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, and Muhammad Daffa, Hanif Pramudya, Rafi Alvanzah, and Owen Mulianto, undergraduate students, as training assistants. The training concluded with a hands-on session and discussion between the participants, the resource person, who acted as a facilitator, and the training assistants.
