Initiating a Platform to Help Applicants Get Noticed by Companies, the UI Kinnovator Team Wins 1st Place in the 2021 Internship Exhibition Case Competition

Rachel Aurellia Irawan, a 2020 Actuarial Science study program student along with two teammates from across faculties at UI, namely Amelia Rani (Fasilkom UI 2020) and Khairinka Lizadhi (Fasilkom UI 2020) won first place in the 2021 SxC Internship Exhibition Case Competition (IECC). This was announced online on Sunday, August 1, 2021 after the final round was held on the same day.

The three of them are in a team that they named Kinnovator. The name Kinnovator itself is a combination of the word Kinobi which is a collaboration partner of StudentxCEO’s as the organizer of the competition and the word Innovator which means innovation initiator. For information, Kinobi is a startup from Singapore that is engaged in Career development. Kinobi was founded in 2020.

Referring to the big theme carried by SxC IECC 2021, namely Envisioning the Future of Hiring and Job Search, the Kinnovator UI team competed to design an innovation that could help Kinobi optimize career development services for its users who are job applicants, so that they can be noticed by recruiting companies.

“So (in this competition) we act as if we are the kinobi party that bridges between job applicants and the company as a recruiter,” Rachel said to the FMIPA UI Public Relations team.

The big idea initiated by Kinnovator UI is Kinobi AIR (Acceleration, Inclusivity, and Recognition), namely a main planning strategy program that focuses on accelerating service to users (Acceleration), Commitment to supporting users based on skill yang dimilikinya (Inclusivity), and provide recognition and awards to users based on the scores obtained by users through training organized by Kinobi (Recognition). The three main points of Kinobi AIR itself are present through a platform called Kinnetwork.

Kinnetwork is a platform that helps Kinobi bridge applicants with companies. Uniquely, on Kinnetwork, the recruiting company cannot see Curriculum Vitae (CV) of applicants in detail on certain information, such as university origin, organizational experience, or work experience. Recruiters can only see the scores obtained by prospective workers when participating in competency training with the selected field provided by the Kinobi platform.

Regarding the uniqueness of the innovation, Rachel explained that this was because the main focus of Kinnovator UI was to provide opportunities for people who have not yet found work due to minimal work experience, or are graduates from universities that are not yet included in the ranks of well-known universities, but have the potential to compete in the job market.

“Because here our main focus is to help people who are looking for work, but still can’t get (a job) because they still have minimal experience, or because the CV and the job vacancy unit that is opened are less relevant, or the applicant is not a graduate of a well-known university, but actually has potential in the job market. Through this system, hopefully the company can conduct a more objective selection,” said Rachel.

The success achieved by Rachel and her team was not without challenges. They had some obstacles when determining the idea together.

“Our biggest challenge is definitely when brainstorming the solution. Because the ones who participated in this competition were not just one or two teams. There were many teams and to find a unique solution, not the same as other groups, that’s what’s difficult,” said Rachel when interviewed by the FMIPA UI Public Relations Team.

However, Rachel feels grateful because the challenges she and her team faced could be overcome until they emerged as winners. Rachel also hopes that this victory will not make her feel satisfied quickly and continue to study the business more deeply.

“Honestly, this is the first time I have won in business competition like this. I hope that this is not an opportunity for me to quickly be proud of my achievements now, but instead for me to learn more deeply from this experience to join competitions that may be at a bigger level, even internationally,” he concluded.

SxC IECC 2021 is a national competition organized by Students x CEOs, a community of young people who care about the potential of the millennial generation in preparing themselves to become future leaders.

This competition was attended by 40 teams from various universities in Indonesia. In the selection stage, the teams were challenged to create executive summary based on the case study provided by the committee. 10 teams with executive summary terpilih declared to have passed the selection and prepared themselves for the semi-final round. In the final round they must present the solutions they offer with the most attractive presentation possible.

3 teams with the best solutions advanced to the final round held on August 1, 2021. In the final round, they presented the material directly in front of the judges and answered various questions from the judges who were the co-founders of Kinobi.
