The series of activities for the National Selection of the 2020 Earth Buddies Competition (KSB) in the Science Theory Category has ended on December 10, 2020. PT Pertamina (Persero) – Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) announced the main winners of the 2020 Earth Buddies Competition (KSB) in the Science Theory Category from four categories, namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, on Thursday (10/12). The stage for determining the winners was also carried out on the same day, namely in the form of open-ended paper presentations from the four fields of science.
The announcement of the 2020 KSB winners was also attended by Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris (UI Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs), Dian Hapsari (CSR Manager of PT Pertamina (Persero)), Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M. Eng. (Acting Dean of FMIPA UI), Prof. Dr. Yoki Yulizar, M.Sc. (Vice Dean for Field II of FMIPA UI and Chairperson of the KSB 2020 Science Theory Category), Dr. Tech. Djoko Triyono (Vice Dean for Field I of FMIPA UI and Deputy Chairperson of the Committee), leaders of KSB 2020 Partner Universities, 32 finalists in the final round, 36 semifinal finalists and their companions.
Dian Hapsari said, “The announcement of the KSB 2020 winners on December 10, 2020 is the culmination of the entire series of KSB 2020 Science Theory Category. The announcement also coincides with the 63rd anniversary of PT Pertamina (Persero). KSB 2020 is a manifestation of our commitment and contribution to the nation through education and sustainable development of superior human resources.”
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris said, “On behalf of the UI leadership, we would like to thank PT Pertamina (Persero) for the cooperation that has been going on for the tenth time in the form of a competition in the field of science. The competition, which was previously known as the Pertamina National Science Olympiad (OSN), has now been transformed with a new name, namely the Sobat Bumi Competition. A very good theme because it is in line with the essence of Pertamina’s role as a manager of state resources and social responsibility in advancing the world of education, and UI’s role as a producer of innovative generations.”
Furthermore, Dr. Rokhmatuloh, Acting Dean of FMIPA UI, added, “We appreciate the enthusiasm and passion of the participants to participate in this competition, and all parties who have worked hard in implementing the 2020 KSB Science Theory Category even in the midst of the COVID-2019 pandemic, so that the entire series of activities run smoothly as we all hope. Hopefully the champions at both the provincial and national levels can become role models in the development of science in Indonesia.”
In his report, Prof. Dr. Yoki Yulizar, Chief Executive, explained “The final round of KSB 2020 Science Theory Category took place today from 08.00 – 14.00 WIB, with an agenda of open-ended paper presentations by 8 participants from each category who qualified for the semifinals. The agenda was continued with a meeting to determine the main winner by the jury team for each field. We would like to thank all parties involved, including partner universities, participants, and the entire committee, who have made this activity a success.”
Referring to the absolute decision of the jury team which was then ratified in the Decree Determining the Order of Grand Final Winners by the Chairman and Deputy Chief Executive, the following are the main winners of KSB 2020 in the Science Theory Category:

Pertamina – FMIPA UI also awarded the champion title to the finalists ranked 4th to 8th in each category as the hope champion and appreciation to all participants in both the preliminary rounds at the Provincial and National Levels, for optimally utilizing the KSB 2020 Science Theory Category as a competitive platform provided by Pertamina.
This event also became the culmination of the entire series of KSB 2020 activities in the Science Theory Category which had begun with the registration period on August 3 – October 30, 2020 online through the website www.sobatbumi.id, the Provincial Level Selection which was held on November 11-12, 2020 by all KSB 2020 Partner Universities with 12,747 participants throughout Indonesia, and the National Level Selection Series which was held on December 1-10, 2020 at 26 KSB 2020 Partner Universities involving 68 finalist participants from the preliminary round at the provincial level. The entire series of activities were held online and directly from FMIPA UI and the partner universities, by implementing strict COVID-19 protocols.
