FMIPA UI Holds MINDS 2026 Mini Symposium, Promoting Collaboration in Natural and Applied Sciences

Depok, 20 January 2026 – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), held the Mini Symposium on Integrated Natural and Applied Sciences (MINDS) 2026 at the Prof. Dr. Ir. Soemantri Brodjonegoro Hall, FMIPA UI, Depok. The symposium brought together researchers, academics, and students to discuss the latest developments in integrated natural and applied sciences.

MINDS 2026 is the result of a collaboration between Universitas Indonesia, City University of Hong Kong, and Guangxi University. The symposium is expected to serve as a platform for long-term academic partnerships while opening broader opportunities for research collaboration with researchers and institutions sharing similar interests. The event also aims to foster cross-disciplinary dialogue, bridging fundamental scientific research with real-world applications, including in the fields of renewable energy, materials science, and solutions to global and societal challenges.

In his opening remarks, the Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si., stated, “It is an honor for me to welcome all participants to MINDS 2026. This symposium is designed to encourage cross-disciplinary dialogue and to build sustainable international collaboration. I also extend my appreciation to all committee members, speakers, and participants for their dedication and commitment. May MINDS 2026 be a productive, inspiring, and beneficial experience for all.”

Dr. Dipo Aldila, S.Si., M.Si., Manager of Research and Community Service at FMIPA UI, added that MINDS 2026 also serves as an important opportunity to strengthen the faculty-level research ecosystem. “This symposium not only provides a platform for presenting research findings, but also encourages cross-institutional and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Activities such as MINDS 2026 are crucial for building sustainable research networks and improving the quality of scientific publications, while also opening opportunities for long-term collaborative programs, including joint research and student mobility,” he said.

The symposium was attended by 50 participants, comprising 48 domestic participants and 2 international participants. Several keynote speakers from various international institutions were present, including Prof. Songyuan Dai (North China Electric Power University, China), Prof. Jia-Hong Pan (Guangxi University, China), Prof. Alex Chun-Yuen Wong (City University of Hong Kong), Prof. Fatwa Firdaus Abdi (City University of Hong Kong), Prof. Guillaume Thibault (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore), Dr. Yanjie Wang (National Center for Nanoscience and Technology, China), and Dr. Phoebe Chung Hoi Ying (City University of Hong Kong).

MINDS 2026 addressed a wide range of cross-disciplinary research topics, ranging from the integration of fundamental natural sciences and applied methodologies for sustainable development, renewable energy systems, and materials science innovation, to solutions for environmental, climate, and ecosystem challenges. The symposium also emphasized the use of computational modeling, simulation, and data-driven approaches to support social resilience, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through MINDS 2026, FMIPA UI hopes to strengthen international academic networks, open new collaboration opportunities, and encourage the development of scientific knowledge and innovation that are relevant to global challenges.
