On Thursday, May 10, 2018, the Center for Marine Studies, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), once again collaborated with the Faculty of Public Health (FKM UI), specifically the Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Study Program. The Center for Marine Studies (Puskel) facilitated the K3 Study Program in conducting field practicum activities.
Held at the Marine Science Laboratory at Danau Salam UI, 50 participants, undergraduate K3 students, participated in an occupational safety practicum, specifically firefighting (Advanced Fire Fighting or AFF) in the Fire Ground area. AFF is part of Basic Safety Training (BST), which is mandatory for prospective workers in the K3 field, such as ship crews or those working in mining or construction.
In addition to the K3 Study Program, the Master of Marine Science Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UI, also has a mandatory BST practicum course during the odd semester. In addition to AFF, BST also includes SCRB (Survival Craft and Rescue Boats) training, which provides self-rescue training in the event of a disaster on board a ship.
This Basic Safety Training is very important, so its benefits are not only intended for UI students but many shipping companies send their crews to undertake this training under the auspices of the UI FMIPA Marine Study Center.
