Dr. Ir. Tarsoen Waryono, M.Si. (Lecturer in the Department of Geography, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia) passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at the age of 70.

Dr. Ir. Tarsoen Waryono, M.Sc. is an environmental expert from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, who was born in Cilacap on June 12, 1952. He is an urban forest architect who has on various occasions expressed his concern about the decline in environmental quality in Jakarta.
He began his career as a civil servant at a Forestry Service branch office in East Kalimantan. After eight years in the forests of Kalimantan, he was then assigned to Jakarta as Head of the Eastern Region Forest Planning Section at the Department of Forestry (1976-1985).
In his work experience at UI, he also served as Head of the Watershed Management Center at the University of Indonesia, and Implementer of the UI Depok Campus Urban Forest Development Program.
Dr. Ir. Tarsoen is also active as the chair of various environmental forums, including the Jakarta Provincial Urban Forest Communication Forum, the Jakarta Provincial Watershed Forum, and the Jakarta National Kalpataru Family Forum.
Pioneering and designing urban forest development is no easy feat. It requires extensive time, significant energy, and an unyielding spirit.
For his services to the environment, he was awarded the Kalpataru Award in the environmental development category in 2022, 2004, 2005, and 2016.
