The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) of the University of Indonesia (UI) officially conferred the title of Adjunct Professor to three scientists from leading universities in the world. They are Prof. Hadi Susanto, an expert in mathematical modeling from Khalifa University, United Arab Emirates, who will be based in the Mathematics Department of FMIPA UI; Prof. Fatwa F. Abdi, an expert in photoelectrochemistry from the City University of Hong Kong, who will be based in the Chemistry Department of FMIPA UI; and Prof. Kim Dong-Hyun, an expert in magnetic physics from Chungbuk National University, South Korea, who will be based in the Physics Department of FMIPA UI.
The award of this title is given as a form of appreciation for their significant contributions in the fields of research and education, and marks the beginning of their service period at FMIPA UI for the next two years, starting from September 2024 to September 2026.
The three scientists have previously collaborated on research and education with lecturers at FMIPA UI. Prof. Kim Dong-Hyun, for example, has collaborated with FMIPA UI for more than ten years, both in joint research grant applications and scientific publications.
Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., said, “At FMIPA UI, we are very aware that human resource development, both among academicians and education personnel, is the main key to improving the quality of education and research. Strengthening this capacity is very important to support efforts to improve FMIPA UI’s ranking and expand the visibility of international publications, which are expected to enrich science and technology that are beneficial to society.”
Prof. Dede hopes that the awarding of the Adjunct Professor title to the three scientists will further expand research collaboration, improve the quality of teaching, and strengthen international relations between FMIPA UI and leading educational and research institutions in the world.
“We are confident that the experience and knowledge they bring will further enrich the academic climate in this faculty, as well as open up new opportunities that are beneficial for the development of science, technology, and education in Indonesia,” he added.
Adjunct Professor is an honorary title given to individuals who have high qualifications and expertise in their field, but do not have permanent lecturer status at a university. This title is given to scientists, professionals, or experts who have made extraordinary contributions in enriching the educational and research experience of the academic community at the university.
