FMIPA UI Boosts Productivity of Internationally Reputable Journals

In line with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI’s vision to become a science faculty capable of playing a global role in advancing science and sustainable development, the encouragement for lecturers and students to increase their research productivity and write for internationally reputable journals is growing.

In this regard, the Research and Community Service Unit of FMIPA UI held a Workshop on Writing Articles for International Publication with the theme “From Final Project to International Publication” on Monday (July 23rd) in Building B, Room 101, FMIPA UI, Depok.

This activity aimed to motivate participants to publish their scientific articles internationally, particularly those indexed by Scopus.

The workshop was attended by more than 150 participants, mostly undergraduate and graduate students of FMIPA UI, as well as several staff members from the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN).

Speakers in the public lecture session were Prof. Dr. Terry Mart, Prof. Dr. Jatna Supriatna, and Prof. Chris Margules.

Following the public lecture by the three speakers, workshop participants were divided into groups for clinical coaching sessions. Each group was accompanied by a facilitator appointed by the Research and Community Service Unit of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia.

In this session the facilitator and participants who have made draft paper discuss and share each other’s experiences starting from writing the manuscript to the process submission and review paper.

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Indonesia, Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, stated that this activity is crucial because it is part of the Faculty’s mission, namely carrying out the Tri Dharma of Higher Education activities in the field of research.

He also said that this activity is a forum that bridges participants who are continuing their postgraduate education to graduate on time through successful publications in Scopus-indexed international journals.

Haris continued, explaining that Scopus-indexed journals are a requirement for graduating from a Masters or Doctoral program. He also emphasized to participants to prioritize journal quality over quantity. He acknowledged that FMIPA UI has focused on quantity, emphasizing activities. International conference dimana output the publication is in the form of proceedings.

“We also need to change the quality of proceedings, moving them from mere journals to journals, so that in the future, we aim to increase the number of journals,” he said.
