Saturday (17/4/2021), FMIPA Universitas Indonesia held the opening and selection of the 2021 UI National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition (KN-MIPA) (Phase I) online. This competition is in order to recruit UI contingents who will compete in the regional stage (Phase II) and the national stage (Phase III) in June. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Si. Director of Student Affairs UI officially opened the 2021 UI KN-MIPA selection.
KN-MIPA is one of the annual agendas of the National Achievement Center of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia which aims to increase the number of outstanding students through improving academic abilities, insight and love of students for the field of MIPA study, as well as an effort to improve the quality of higher education. The fields competed are Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Dr. Retno Lestari, Student Affairs Manager of FMIPA UI as the Chief Executive in her report said that the 2021 KN-MIPA UI level was attended by a total of 116 students consisting of 91 FMIPA students, 9 students from the Faculty of Engineering, 4 students from the Faculty of Medicine, 4 students from the Faculty of Computer Science, 4 students from the Faculty of Public Health, 2 students from the Faculty of Pharmacy, and 2 students from the Faculty of Nursing.
“Meanwhile, the distribution of the number of participants in each field of competition is: Mathematics 31 participants, Physics 19 participants, Chemistry 26 participants, and Biology 40 participants,” added Dr. Retno.
Furthermore, he said that participants who successfully advance to the next stage will be given guidance in preparation for facing regional and national level selection.
Even though the selection was held virtually, he reminded the participants to be able to complete the questions honestly.
Dr. Rokhmatuloh, M.Eng. As the Dean of FMIPA UI, he expressed his support to the contingents and mentors. According to him, KN-MIPA 2021 is an opportunity that must be used well to improve the achievements of FMIPA UI in particular and UI in general as an effort to improve UI’s reputation in world rankings.
“Through KN-MIPA UI, I hope that the contingents, supervisors, and committees can prepare everything better, and put in their best efforts in line with what we have planned that this year we must focus on improving our reputation, or the ranking of faculties and universities in the international arena,” said Dr. Rokhmatuloh.
The Acting Dean of FMIPA UI hopes that UI will become the overall champion of KN-MIPA 2021. He emphasized that FMIPA UI is ready to provide the best support and guidance from FMIPA UI lecturers in related fields.
In line with Dr. Rokhmatuloh, Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M. Si., Director of Student Affairs UI appreciated and motivated the KN-MIPA 2021 UI team. He assessed that the management of the activity from year to year by FMIPA UI had been running very well, from preparation, guidance, to mentoring at every stage of implementation.
“We as UI leaders assess that the KN-MIPA selection program has been carried out well from year to year through the role of the leaders of FMIPA UI, as well as their supervising lecturers. Even through this competition, UI has produced national and international champions in the field of MIPA. These achievements are very important to support UI’s achievements every year,” said Dr. Tito.
To further motivate his team, he said that UI fully supports its contingents both morally and materially as programmed by his unit to be implemented this year.
After the official opening by the UI Director of Student Affairs, the first stage of the UI selection began. Participants began working on questions according to the field of competition they participated in.
This event was also attended by the vice deans, Education Manager, Head of Academic Quality Assurance Unit, Heads of Departments, and Heads of Study Programs of FMIPA UI, as well as the 2021 KN-MIPA supervisors who are FMIPA UI lecturers in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
