On Tuesday morning (March 21, 2023), the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI), held the 2023 Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres) Main event at the Prof. Dr. G.A. Siwabessy Hall, UI Campus, Depok.
This event was attended by a total of 6 participants representing each department and study program, namely the Department of Mathematics, Department of Physics, Department of Chemistry, Department of Biology, Department of Geography, and the Geosciences study program.
All participants had previously undergone a selection process at the department level held from February 21 to 26.
The Dean of FMIPA UI, Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., officially opened the event. In his speech, he expressed support and appreciation to the participants and extended his gratitude to the pilmapres committee and the FMIPA UI leadership involved in making this event a success.
He emphasized that the leadership at FMIPA UI is committed to always supporting academic and non-academic activities that can encourage student achievements and competitiveness, one of which is through the pilmapres event.
“My commitment, and that of the FMIPA UI leadership team, is to always support activities that can develop students’ potential to bring honor to FMIPA UI at the national and international levels, such as this pilmapres event we are holding or olympiads,” said Dean Dede.
“We also always communicate and collaborate with the student affairs directorate regarding matters that can help improve the reputation of FMIPA UI, because FMIPA UI is step by step already recognized nationally and internationally,” he said.
He hopes that the main outstanding student (mapres utama) from FMIPA UI can advance FMIPA UI to the national level and achieve success in the final competition. To the finalists, he advised them to uphold sportsmanship and continue innovating to make a positive impact for FMIPA UI and the community.
“Good luck to the finalists of the FMIPA UI Outstanding Student Selection. For those who have not yet had the chance to win a title, don’t be discouraged. Keep upholding sportsmanship, seize other prestigious opportunities to compete, and most importantly, continue innovating to bring benefits to the faculty and the community,” he added.
Dr. Dewi Susiloningtyas, S.Si., M.Si., Manager of Student Affairs at FMIPA UI and also the chairperson of this event, stated that on Saturday (March 18, 2023), the FMIPA UI student affairs unit held the category outstanding student selection (Pilmapres) at the Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building Hall, FMIPA UI – PT Pertamina Persero, UI Campus, Depok. The event involved a total of 10 participants consisting of 1 participant from the Department of Mathematics, 2 from the Department of Physics, 1 from the Department of Chemistry, 3 from the Department of Biology, 1 from the Department of Geography, and 2 from the Geosciences study program.
The categories competed in were Arts and Culture, Social and Environmental, Sports, and Entrepreneurship.
“The Category Mapres was successfully and smoothly held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, and has already entered the judging phase. We highly appreciate the finalists who have presented their creative ideas,” said Dr. Dewi.
However, she said that the announcement of the category mapres winners will be made on the same day as the announcement of the main mapres winners, after the final stages of the main pilmapres have been completed.
“The announcement of both the category mapres winners and the main winners will be made this afternoon,” she said.
Furthermore, she explained an overview of the implementation of this year’s pilmapres series of activities. According to her, there is a slight difference in the timing of the implementation which is timeline was brought forward by the National Achievement Center of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.
“For that reason, we also need to adjust to the dynamics that are happening,” she said.
According to her, there is also a difference in the selection process, where the category mapres selection is conducted at the faculty level, while the main mapres selection process is carried out starting from the department and study program levels.
Before concluding her speech, Dr. Dewi expressed her hope that in the future, outstanding student agents will emerge who, through their respective interests and talents, can inspire fellow students within the university environment as well as provide a positive impact on society through their creative ideas and concepts.
The stages of the 2023 FMIPA UI Outstanding Student Selection consist of presentations and discussions in English, Creative Ideas in the form of Scientific Papers (KTI) for the Main Outstanding Student finalists, as well as evaluation of an outstanding CV.
The Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres) is organized by the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI), Secretariat General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, as an effort to encourage students to excel not only academically but also to become individuals who are creative, innovative, highly competitive, and possess strong character.
According to the website pusatprestasinasional.kemdikbud.go.id, this year the Outstanding Student Selection (Pilmapres) for undergraduate participants has undergone changes by integrating the assessment of various skills needed in society. The evaluation of outstanding students will be based on aspects of knowledge and skills as well as life skills, including communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and other excellent character traits.
In addition, the selection process will be conducted in stages, based on the principle of equality between public and private universities, and with regional representation. This will be followed by life skills training at the final stage.
