When we talk about professions like doctor, notary, pharmacist, or accountant, many people are familiar with them. However, when we mention the profession of actuary, most people will ask, “What is an actuary?”
An actuary is a person who specializes in mathematics and statistics to solve real-world business problems, such as estimating financial risk in the insurance and financial industries. Actuaries are also a rare profession, currently in high demand in the insurance and financial industries. Internationally, the actuarial profession is highly valued, and surveys consistently rank among the top five highest-paid occupations.

Since its launch in August of last year, the new Actuarial Science undergraduate study program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (UI), has been continuously introduced to the public, particularly high school students. Actuarial science and the profession of actuary are still unfamiliar to them.
As an effort to promote the Bachelor of Actuarial Science Study Program and to welcome the 2018/2019 academic calendar, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) UI participated in the “Indonesia International Education & Training Expo (IIETE)” exhibition. This is the largest education exhibition in Indonesia that showcases leading universities and institutions both domestically and internationally, including the University of Indonesia. This major event was held at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) for four days, namely until Sunday (25/2).

In this event, which was attended by more than 30,000 visitors, FMIPA UI introduced the Actuarial Science Undergraduate Study Program to the visitors, most of whom were high school students and had an interest in science.
In addition to introducing its new study program, FMIPA UI also provided information about the entry pathway, tuition fees, courses and learning methods that they will receive after being accepted as FMIPA UI students to visitors.
