In order to enliven the holy month of Ramadhan 1445 H, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) held a breaking of the fast together for academicians and education staff, on Wednesday (27/3/2024), in the Hall of the Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building, FMIPA UI – PT Pertamina (Persero), UI Campus, Depok.
Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., in his speech said that this breaking of the fast together activity was held as a means to foster friendship between the extended family of FMIPA UI.
“Through this breaking of the fast together, it is hoped that it can strengthen the ties of friendship between us all, if there are tense relationships between one another due to differences of opinion or the like, we can thaw them out again here,” said the Dean.
In an atmosphere full of familiarity and warmth, Prof. Dede also appreciated and expressed his gratitude to all academicians, as well as educational staff for the achievements that have been achieved for the development of FMIPA UI. All of these achievements, according to Prof. Dede, are a manifestation of Allah SWT’s pleasure to FMIPA UI.
“There are many things that I think are motivating, starting from lecturers, education staff, and students. There are also many achievements that have been achieved by FMIPA UI. Of course, these achievements are none other than the pleasure of Allah SWT,” he said.
So he reminded the extended family of FMIPA UI to always maintain their enthusiasm by always instilling a sense of gratitude for every success achieved, and learning from every difficulty faced in order to get ease later.
“As humans, we must be grateful, learn a lot from many difficulties, on the one hand there are also many conveniences, that is perhaps what motivates us as FMIPA UI residents,” Prof. Dede added.
Finally, he emphasized to the entire FMIPA UI family that in this breaking of the fast event there were no barriers between leaders, lecturers, education staff or students so he invited all those present to greet each other, or even exchange stories.
After the Dean’s speech, the event continued with a tausiyah delivered by KH. Jazim Hamidi, MA. In his tausiyah he conveyed the meaning, wisdom, virtues and miracles of fasting Ramadan for believers.

Delivered by KH. It is believed that fasting exists as a means that leads humans to achieve a level of piety, as is the meaning contained in Surah Al Baqarah verse 183. According to the command of Allah SWT, when fasting, humans must control their desires by not fulfilling their basic needs such as eating and drinking until the time to break the fast arrives.
“Fasting is present as a medium that leads humans to achieve piety through controlling their lusts. In normal situations, we can fulfill these needs according to our needs and time. While during fasting, we are taught to be able to hold back from fulfilling these needs until it is time to break the fast. All of this is solely so that we have a high level of self-control over our lusts,” he said.
“When we are able to control our lusts, God willing, we will be kept away from other things that are forbidden by Allah SWT, and will be bestowed with much pleasure and also have our degree of piety raised by Allah SWT,” he said.
