The Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, Receives 5 Billion Rupiah in International Funding from the DAAD

The Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) through the Medical Physics and Biophysics Field Group (KBI) received international funding of 292,717 Euros or approximately 5 billion rupiah for a period of 4 years, starting from May 2023 to December 2026.

Funding comes from the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst). In this activity, the UI Medical Physics Study Program collaborates with Ulm University, Germany, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) project funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the DAAD German Academic Exchange Service.

The project, entitled “Entwicklung der Medizinischen Physik in Lehre und Forschung in Indonesien (Development of Medical Physics Teaching and Research in Indonesia),” is administratively managed by Ulm University, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Gerhard Glatting, and from UI, coordinated by Dr.sc.hum. Deni Hardiansyah.

The implementation of this activity also collaborates with several universities that are members of the Alliance of Indonesian Medical Physics Education Institutions and the Alliance of Indonesian Medical Physicists.

To the FMIPA UI public relations team, Dr. Deni revealed that the project will focus on collaboration in developing the curriculum for the Master’s (S2) Medical Physics study program, transferring technical knowledge of Medical Physics through workshops and research for students of the Master’s (S2) Medical Physics study program and the Doctoral (S3) Physics study program in the field of Medical Physics research, with universities or research centers in Germany.

“The activity focuses on collaboration between Master’s and Doctoral students in Medical Physics, particularly in the field of Medical Physics research, with German universities for curriculum development and technical training related to Medical Physics,” he said.

The Medical Physics and Biophysics Department has been part of the Physics Department of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia, since 1998, with the establishment of the Medical Physics and Biophysics specialization in the Physics undergraduate program. Special attention to advanced education in Medical Physics is demonstrated by the opening of the Medical Physics specialization in the Physics Master’s program in 2002, which in 2021 transformed into the first and only Medical Physics Master’s program in Indonesia. This international funding involvement from the DAAD strengthens FMIPA’s commitment to academic internationalization by adding a series of international collaborations to improve academic quality.
