Three Master’s Degree Programs at FMIPA UI Undergo ASIIN International Accreditation Visit

After four study programs at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI) previously succeeded in obtaining international accreditation from the Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences and Mathematics (ASIIN), three other programs—Master’s Program in Physics, Master’s Program in Materials Science, and Master’s Program in Biology—are now undergoing an ASIIN international accreditation visit, which took place from March 13 to 15, 2023.

In his speech during the visitation, Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, M.Sc., stated that UI continuously strives and remains committed to improving the quality of education. “Through global engagement, UI is able to build a sustainable academic reputation and drive the university’s international rankings,” said Prof. Haris.

The three study programs underwent a series of visitation/audit activities conducted by peer review or the ASIIN assessor team participated virtually. Several locations were visited virtually, including the Physics Department Laboratory, Biology Department Laboratory, Integrity Laboratory and Research Centre (ILRC) Building, Library, UI Makara Satellite Clinic, and classrooms.

According to the Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit at FMIPA UI, Dr. Dra. Denny Riama Silaban, M.Kom., the participation of these three study programs is an effort to enhance and ensure that the quality of education at FMIPA UI aligns with international standards.

Thus, Dr. Denny continued, FMIPA UI is gaining greater international recognition and opening up broader opportunities for collaboration with leading universities around the world.

“This effort also opens up opportunities for international students to pursue their studies at FMIPA UI,” she said.

She added that the preparations made prior to the visit were not easy, as they involved participants from various study programs. task force from various study programs with different schedules and workloads. Not to mention the challenge of aligning perceptions and synchronizing the pace of work across the programs.

“Untuk itu, kami membuat task force fakultas dan task force Each study program holds regular meetings. For this year’s preparation, two consinyering sessions were also held, each lasting 2-3 days,” said Dr. Denny

The Dean of FMIPA UI, Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., fully supports and oversees the entire accreditation process. He stated, “ASIIN accreditation is an indicator of the improvement in quality and standards of the educational process at FMIPA UI meeting international benchmarks. This recognition is important for the FMIPA UI academic community to be widely known at the international and global levels.”

ASIIN is an independent international accreditation agency based in Germany that ensures the quality of degree programs in the disciplines of engineering, computer science, natural sciences, and mathematics. Since 2000, ASIIN has had the authority to grant accreditation seals from the German Accreditation Council, in addition to the ASIIN quality seal. ASIIN is registered in The European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) until August 31, 2026. EQAR is included in the list of accreditation registers recognized by the Indonesian government.

For the next steps, ASIIN will provide an initial accreditation report that FMIPA UI can respond to. The final accreditation results for these three study programs are expected to be received by FMIPA UI around June-July 2023
