UI FMIPA Students Win Gold in International Mathematics Championship

Another proud achievement was achieved by a student from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia. This time, Valentino Prasetya (Mathematics 2016) achieved it at the 2019 International Mathematics Competition (IMC), held from July 28 to August 3, 2019, in Bulgaria.

Valentino managed to win a gold medal in an important forest for young mathematicians which has been going on since 1994.

Prior to competing in the 2019 IMC, Valentino, who previously won a silver medal in Mathematics at the 2019 ON-MIPA Higher Education Competition, trained in Jakarta for three days, working on various international mathematics olympiad problems, including algebra, analysis, geometry, and combinatorics. The contingent was also trained to mentally prepare for competition.

The Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at the University of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, expressed his pride in his student’s achievement. He hopes that Valentino’s achievement will motivate other FMIPA UI students to be more enthusiastic about studying and actively participate in various academic competitions.

“Of course we are very proud and fully support the success of more FMIPA UI students in level internasional”.ucap Prof. Haris.
