Welcoming New Students, FMIPA UI Dean: Explore Your Potential, Grow into Outstanding Scientists!

Depok, August 13, 2025 – The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Indonesia (FMIPA UI), officially held the Faculty Academic System Orientation (PSAF) for new undergraduate students of the 2025/2026 Academic Year. The opening ceremony took place on Wednesday (August 13) at the Prof. Dr. Ir. Soemantri Brodjonegoro Hall, UI Depok Campus, and will continue for the next three days.

This year, FMIPA UI admitted a total of 891 new undergraduate students through various admission pathways, including the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP), National Selection Based on Test (SNBT), UI Entrance Selection (SIMAK UI), as well as Olympic and Achievement-based tracks.

The Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., officially opened the event with great enthusiasm. In his remarks, he expressed pride and high hopes for the new students.

“Being admitted as a student at FMIPA UI is a blessing to be grateful for, given the highly competitive selection process. Make the most of this golden opportunity to study diligently and continuously explore your potential, so that you can grow into outstanding scientists,” said Prof. Dede.

He also highlighted several important achievements of the faculty, including the launch of three new study programs: the Ph.D. Program in Mathematics, the Professional Program for Medical Physicists, and the Ph.D. Program in Geography, as well as the improvement of international accreditation for several postgraduate programs. FMIPA UI also recorded an increase in its ranking in the 2025 QS World University Rankings (WUR) by subject, strengthening its reputation as a leading faculty both nationally and globally.

The Chair of the FMIPA UI Board of Professors, Prof. Dr. Sumi Hudiyono, PWS, also conveyed a message to the new students to use the 9 Values of Universitas Indonesia as a guiding principle throughout their education.

“Ethics is the primary foundation. If you uphold ethics, you will grow into resilient, responsible, and reliable individuals,” emphasized Prof. Sumi.

Meanwhile, the Student Affairs Manager of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dr. Dewi Susiloningtyas, S.Si., M.Si., explained that this year’s PSAF was extended to three days to provide students with more time to understand the campus ecosystem.

The first day of PSAF featured several presentation sessions by the faculty leadership, including the Vice Dean for Education, Research, and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Budiawan, and the Vice Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration, Prof. Dr. Tito Latif Indra, S.Si., M.Si. Both presented the faculty’s organizational structure and the functions of each division.

The Education Manager of FMIPA UI, Dr. Rika Tri Yunarti, provided explanations on the curriculum, lecture system, grading system, and administrative procedures related to student studies. Subsequently, the Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit, Dr. Denny R. Silaban, M.Kom., highlighted the importance of quality assurance in maintaining the standard of education.

To support the psychological transition of new students, a talk show titled “Welcoming a New Journey with Healthy Emotions and Self-Confidence as a Student” was held, featuring child and adolescent clinical psychologist Savira Anjani, S.Psi., M.Psi., as the main speaker.

Information about campus facilities was presented by the General and Facilities Manager, Mohammad Hidayat, S.Sos., while Prof. Dr. Dewi Susiloningtyas provided an explanation of student development programs. Dr. Dipo Aldila, S.Si., M.Si., also presented opportunities for student involvement in research and community service activities. The session concluded with Dr. Lukmanda Evan Lubis, M.Si., F.Med., who discussed venture management and alumni relations.

In addition to the faculty leadership, the event was also attended by Department Heads and Study Program Heads within FMIPA UI.

With a comprehensively designed series of activities, PSAF 2025 is expected to serve as a strong foundational start for new students in their academic journey and in shaping outstanding character as part of the Universitas Indonesia academic community.
