UI Takes Home 15 Medals, Wins 2nd Overall Champion Title at KN MIPA 2021 Event

The National Achievement Center (Puspresnas), Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) held an online announcement of the winners of the 2021 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition (KNMIPA) on Friday (30/7/2021). A total of 260 students from various universities throughout Indonesia competed for 25 medals consisting of 4 Gold Medals, 6 Silver Medals, 10 Bronze Medal Winners, and 5 honorable mention winners.

In the most prestigious national competition among students, the University of Indonesia (UI) student contingent won a total of 15 medals consisting of five gold medals, six silver medals, and one bronze medal, as well as three honorable mention titles.

The UI student contingent that won gold medals were Steven Fernaldy Tanno (Mathematics – FMIPA), Leonardus Brahmantyo Putra (Physics – FMIPA), Ahmad Arsy (Physics – FMIPA), Muhammad Fauzan Syahbana (Physics -FMIPA), and Michael (Chemical Engineering – FT)

Furthermore, the UI contingent that won silver medals were Nathanael Tama Hasaya (Chemistry – FMIPA), Alfian Gunawan (Physics – FMIPA), Jesaya Christian Ido Raja Situmeang (Physics – FMIPA), Michael Lesa (Chemistry – FMIPA), Tasnim Bilal (Mathematics – FMIPA), Laurensius Fabianus Steven (Mathematics – FMIPA).

The bronze medal was won by Yaseen Fajrie Yudha Gozali (Mathematics – FMIPA). Then, three other contingents, namely Muhammad Irfan Afifudin (Biology – FMIPA UI), Febrian Wijaya (Biology – FMIPA UI), Agustinus Bravy Tetuko Ompusunggu (Mathematics – FMIPA UI) also contributed awards by winning honorable mention titles. With all these achievements, Universitas Indonesia is ranked 2nd Overall Champion of KN MIPA 2021 out of 10 Universities.

The awards to the winners are based on the Decree of the Head of the National Achievement Center of the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Number: 1436/J3/KM.01.01/2021 concerning the Determination of the Winners of the 2021 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competencies.

The National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Competition (KN-MIPA) is an annual competition organized by the National Achievement Center of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.

This competition aims to shape and improve achievements, as well as student learning motivation in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Through this activity, the National Achievement Center facilitates and recruits outstanding students in the field of MIPA, while preparing the best graduates who are able to answer the challenges of changing times through scientific knowledge.

The initial stage of KN MIPA 2021 was carried out through regional level selection held online on 23-24 June 2021, attended by 3,838 participants from 292 universities throughout Indonesia.
