As the peak of the 58th Anniversary commemoration, FMIPA UI held a scientific oration delivered by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture of Indonesia Puan Maharani and the Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education Prof. H. Mohamad Nasir. On this Anniversary momentum, the inauguration of the use of equipment and facilities of the FMIPA UI-Pertamina Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory sponsored by Sinar Mas was also continued. The inauguration was carried out by Coordinating Minister Puan Maharani together with the Dean of FMIPA UI Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris on Wednesday (16/1) at the FMIPA UI – Pertamina Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building, Depok campus.

Raising the big theme “Science and Innovation in Industry 4.0: Reinventing The Human Capital”, Dean of FMIPA UI Dr. rer. nat. Abdul Haris, assessed that the theme is relevant to FMIPA UI’s efforts in responding to challenges in the field of science in the future, in accordance with the vision and mission of FMIPA UI, namely to play an active role in advancing science to contribute to sustainable development. Haris said “Along with the development of the 4th industrial revolution (4.0) stage, FMIPA UI strives to increase the quantity and quality of research to give birth to innovation, through research and development activities to create new innovations and discoveries”.

Furthermore, Sinar Mas Managing Director, Saleh Husin, stated that the spirit of building a culture of applied research through cross-sector synergy underlies Sinar Mas’ partnership with the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI).
“We believe this kind of collaboration will further strengthen the research and development culture that benefits the wider community, including the industrial sector,” said Saleh.
Sinar Mas, through its business pillar, Asia Pulp & Paper Sinar Mas, contributed IDR 7 billion to equip all equipment and furnishings in the auditorium, seminar rooms, research rooms, management offices, and several laboratories, including high-performance computing, remote sensing, geographic information systems, geophysics, geology, nanoscience, and biological conservation laboratories, which are part of the FMIPA UI-Pertamina Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building.
Furthermore, Saleh stated that Sinar Mas’ partnership with universities aligns with the government’s efforts to strengthen cross-sector collaborative research. “Some of the results will be very beneficial for us, including the development of the pulp and paper industry and sustainable palm oil plantations.”

On the same occasion, the FMIPA UI Science Expo took place where APP Sinar Mas together with PT Smartfren Telecom Tbk presented a platform containing various sustainable business initiatives, including corporate social responsibility programs.
