UI FMIPA Students Again Win Champion Titles at the 2016 Pertamina Science Olympiad

Shinta Rahmayani A. (Mathematics 2014) & Hazrina Tiyas Nusa (Biology 2014) brought honor to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, UI by winning 1st place in the Mathematics Theory Category and 1st place in the Biology Theory Category in the 2016 Pertamina Science Olympiad. They managed to bring home a scholarship prize from PT Pertamina (Persero) amounting to Rp. 8,000,000.

The announcement of the winners was held at the 2016 Pertamina Science Olympiad award ceremony on Thursday (24/11/2016) at the Patra Pertamina Women’s Building, Simprug, South Jakarta.

Shinta and Hazrina previously defeated more than 11,000 other participants in the theory category in the Provincial Selection round through theOnline Computer-Based Test(CBT) system, a development of the previous year’sPaper-Based Test(PBT) system. They also competed to defeat other participants in the semifinals and grand final of the National Final Selection through a written exam, as well as presenting their scientific papers in anopen-endedquestion  before a panel of judges.

Besides Shinta and Hazrina, another Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences student, Vincent Jonathan (Chemistry 2015) who is a team from the Science Project Category won the Honorable Mention title. Vincent and other team members, namely Albertus Joseph (Chemical Engineering 2015), Karen Geraldine (Bioprocess Technology 2016) created a tool called “Plasma Hectrolysis” which is explained in a paper entitled METHANOL AND METHANE PRODUCTION FROM CO2 GAS-WASTE USING PLASMA ELECTROLYSIS. The Science Project Category team from UI succeeded in bringing home a prize in the form of a scholarship from PT Pertamina (Persero) amounting to IDR 5,000,000.
