Muhammad Jilan Wicaksono, a student of the Mathematics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), University of Indonesia (UI), achieved a proud achievement in an international mathematics competition. Jilan won a silver medal in the 31st International Mathematics Competition (IMC) which was held live at the American University, Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria, on August 5-11, 2024.
Jilan and other students from Indonesia who excelled at IMC 2024 are the winners of the 2024 National Mathematics and Science Olympiad for Higher Education (ONMIPA-PT) in mathematics. They have participated in three stages of selection and coaching facilitated by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.
Dean of FMIPA UI, Prof. Dede Djuhana, Ph.D., expressed his highest appreciation for Jilan’s success, as well as to all the mentors and assistants who have contributed to this achievement from the preparation stage to the implementation.
“Jilan’s achievements are not only the result of her talent and dedication, but also the hard work and commitment of the parties involved, starting from the selection stage at the ON-MIPA event in mathematics to the preparation and implementation of IMC 2024,” said the Dean.
The Dean added that this achievement was a beautiful offering from FMIPA UI in commemoration of the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.
“For us, this achievement is also a beautiful gift from FMIPA UI for the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.
For your information, the International Mathematics Competition (IMC) is an international competition or olympiad for students in the field of Mathematics that has been held since 1994. Indonesia first participated in the IMC in 2004.
This prestigious competition brings together students from all over the world to test their mathematical skills. With over 300 participants from various countries, IMC 2024 provides a platform for students to compete in solving challenging mathematical problems.
IMC 2024 officially opened on August 6, 2024, where participants were welcomed and briefed on the rules and procedures of the competition. The core competition took place on August 7 and 8, 2024, where participants were faced with various challenges in branches of mathematics such as Algebra, Analysis, Geometry, and Combinatorics.
After completing the exam session, participants will take part in an excursion on August 9, 2024, where they will have the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Bulgaria. On the same day, the Jury will assess the exam results. As the peak event that closes the entire series of activities, IMC 2024 will announce and award the winners on August 10, 2024.
