A total of 14 students from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) along with 4 other students from various faculties at UI successfully passed the 2023 ONMIPA-PT regional selection held online on May 23-24, 2023.

This was stated in the announcement of the results of the 2023 regional level ONMIPA-PT selection which was officially conveyed by Asep Sukmayadi as Head of the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI), National Achievement Center, Secretariat General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia through letter Number: 0983/J7.1/PN.00/2023, which was issued on June 5, 2023.

The 14 FMIPA UI students comprised three participants from the mathematics competition, five from the physics competition, four from the chemistry competition, and two from the biology competition. The other four contingent included one student from the Faculty of Engineering for the mathematics competition, one from the Faculty of Nursing for the biology competition, and two from the Faculty of Dentistry for the biology competition.

Dean of FMIPA UI Dede Djuhana, Ph.D. congratulated the contingents who had successfully passed the regional selection stage, while also providing support and encouragement to them in facing the national selection stage to achieve the best possible results.

“Congratulations, and we must be even more enthusiastic about competing at the national level. Prepare yourselves as best as possible and take advantage of this opportunity to bring honor to UI as a national champion,” said the Dean.

In preparation for this national-level selection, the Dean said, participants received intensive training with materials tailored to their respective competition areas. The training materials were provided directly by internal lecturers who served as student mentors specifically for ONMIPA-PT participants.

“These various preparations are our serious support for all participants to achieve the best results,” he added.

The lecturers appointed as supervisors are experts in the fields of study being competed in, namely Dr. Putri Zahra Kamalia for the mathematics competition, Dr. Adam Badra Cahaya for the physics competition, Dr. Iman Abdullah for the chemistry competition, and Dr. Ratna Yuniati, M.Si. for the biology competition.

The 2023 national level ONMIPA-PT activities will be held offline at the CAS, CRCS, and BSC B Buildings of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Bandung, for 5 (five) days, namely Tuesday – Saturday, June 13-17, 2023. The activities will be carried out by implementing strict health protocols.

The national competition will have a maximum of 65 participants per field. Of these, the top 20 students per field will be selected: 3 gold medalists, 5 silver medalists, 7 bronze medalists, and 5 honorable mentions.

The National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Olympiad for Higher Education (ONMIPA-PT) is a talent competition for higher education held by the Indonesian Talent Development Center (BPTI), the National Achievement Center of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, as a forum to develop student creativity and innovation in Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The 2023 ONMIPA-PT will be implemented online at the regional level and offline at the national level.
