Thursday afternoon (11/5/2023), at the Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory Building of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) – PT Pertamina (Persero), UI Campus, Depok, Deputy Dean for Resources, Ventures, and General Administration of FMIPA UI Dr. Tito Latif Indra, M.Sc., welcomed the arrival of a delegation from the Faculty of Science Leiden University led by Prof. Dr. Jasper Knoester Dean and Professor of Biology Faculty of Science, Leiden University. The meeting was to exchange information and discuss potential collaborations on student exchanges, education, and joint research.
In his remarks, Dr. Tito stated that the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Indonesia (FMIPA UI) and the Faculty of Science, Leiden University, have established a strong working relationship since 2017. This collaboration is realized through winter courses. These courses have fostered interaction between the two science faculties, exchanging tools, scientific methods, and educational information in an effort to enhance mutual understanding of complex scientific issues.
“We recognize the importance of this partnership, and we believe that cooperation and scholarly relationships based on shared goals, shared values, and ideal standards for academic excellence should continue to be promoted. The joint courses and research between these two institutions have demonstrated a strong commitment to innovative teaching methods and interdisciplinary research,” said Dr. Tito.
Echoing Dr. Tito, Prof. Dr. Jasper Knoester said in his remarks, “We envision this partnership continuing to grow with greater scientific collaboration and engagement in the future. We hope this visit will strengthen our collaborative relationship and provide an opportunity to explore new avenues in information exchange and scientific exploration that can lead to lasting values.”
On the same occasion, Prof. Jasper also delivered a presentation about Leiden University’s Faculty of Science, including its history and scientific specializations.
From the FMIPA UI, a presentation regarding academic profiles, collaborations, and other areas was delivered by Dr. Lukmanda Evan Lubis, M.Si., Manager of Collaborations, Ventures, and Alumni Relations.

In the presentation, Dr. Evan explained several important points about the current situation at UI and FMIPA, namely new programs and opportunities at UI and FMIPA that enable the implementation of Joint Education and Research activities such as the foreign student scholarship program (UI-Great), various research and innovation grant schemes, as well as FMIPA UI’s experience in implementing programs. student mobility.
Still in his presentation material, Dr. Evan also discussed several activities and collaborative programs between FMIPA UI and Leiden University that had been implemented well in previous years, one of which was The Winter School Programs which had been successfully held for two consecutive years from 2017 to 2020.
“We have also conducted several discussions on collaboration opportunities and public lectures featuring experts and professors from Leiden University from 2017 to 2020,” said Dr. Evan.
After delivering the presentation, Dr. Evan led a discussion between the two parties involving the heads of departments and heads of study programs.

Still on the same day, the agenda with Leiden University then continued with a guest lecture session entitled MIPA Talk with a theme“Advances in Science for Sustainable Development”, di bawah pengelolaan unit Penelitian dan Pengabdian Pada Masyarakat FMIPA UI.
The event took place in the Prof. Dr. G. A. Siwabessy Hall, FMIPA UI, moderated by Prof. Dr. Jatna Suprijatna, M.Sc.. Prof. Dr. Jasper Knoester and Prof. Dr. Arnold Tukker Professors were present as guest speakers.
To the participants who were students from various levels and study programs at FMIPA UI, Prof. Jasper shared knowledge about nanoscale synthetic and biological materials for breakthroughs in science and technology, while Prof. Arnold conveyed insights regarding the prospects and challenges of sustainable development.
